Sundance is one of the most fun, exciting and glamorous venues for film, fashion and beauty but the high altitude and winter conditions make it one of the most challenging spots to be makeup ready for all the fun and glamour. Below are tips (and some of my favorite new products) which I used for my InStyle makeup session with Freida Pinto, who was there to promote her documentary about education in underprivileged communities, Girl Rising and Abigail Spencer, who was there for the premiere of her new Sundance Channel series Rectify (dying to see both of them!) Dry skin isn’t forgiving and neither is the paparazzi on Main Street snapping photos of your work so, make sure you and your client are prepped, primed and camera ready!
* Sundance is a ski town not a runway – take the surroundings into consideration and leave the “base” for the ski mountain!
*Tinted Moisturizer because dewy skin is gorgeous! I used Napoleon Persdis because it gives a tint and a glow and comes in two shades.
*Mattifying loose powder for the T-Zone ONLY. Laura Mercier makes a great one!
* Eyeshadow needs to NOT be over-done, less is more. I like the Bobbi Brown palettes.
*Cream blush adds a natural look. My personal favorite is Smashbox Cream Cheek Trio, which also comes with a highlighter.
*Lip Moisturizer-Tinted with color or just a good lip balm. I love Burt’s Bees & L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Lip Gloss.
* Touch-up kits in purse- This includes a mini size hairspray. I really like Dove’s Flexible Hold. The name says it all. Also, put plenty of Kleenex in your purse!
* Most important of all, HYDRATE! The hi-altitude and walking will deplete your water balance and cause bags and unhealthy skin! And remember, the only thing you want to layer at Sundance is your moisturizers and clothes. Stay dewy! xox
