Hair can be tricky. As is giving away well hidden beauty secrets to the rest of the world. About ten years ago a very smart hair stylist I used to work with on set gave me one of my early blow outs and told me to hunt down my local Lower East Side salon, one preferably manned by the Dominican girls and I would be set for life without giving up my life savings. Sure enough right on the corner of 5th Street and Avenue C was Johanny’s where I could get my hair blown out flatter than it wanted to go for $15. After traveling the world and visiting every salon within a reasonable distance of a fashion week on either side of the ocean Johanny’s is still my favorite. A decade later not much has changed except the girls have moved to Clinton Street but the now $20 blow out is still the best I have ever had especially for that amazing price. Dalina, Eva and Johanny herself are serious pros and will have you in and out in twenty minutes without a dent in your pocket. I swear by this place when I am home and am trying to talk Dalina into packing her bags and her flat iron to come West. Get ready LA.
