Mayakovsky by Rodchenko

This image of Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky taken by Alexander Rodchenko in 1924 is one of my all time favorite photographs. First of all, let’s be frank. Mayakovsky was hot. And smart. And tortured (he killed himself at 36 over a girl). Hello perfect man storm. The two of them have come to represent the Russian constructivist and futurist periods like nobody’s business and through October 13th you can see some of these images at Naila Alexander. “From Pictorialism and Avant Garde to Socialist Realism: Russian Photography 1908-1938” is on view at 41 E 57th St, 212-315-2211.
