Over the past decade there have been a number of designers who have opted to include (or simply focus on) vegan options for their customers and thanks to the growing number of celebrities like Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman, Alicia Silvertstone, Christina Applegate, and so many more, who refuse to wear leather and fur the luxury industry has had to rethink their approach to both. So now along with long standing fur and leather free brands like Stella McCartney comes Bottega Veneta with their “Carta Giapponese” clutch made of tightly woven washi, a delicate paper derived from the bark of the Japanese kozo tree. The washi is cut, left with raw edges, intricately woven in that classic Bottega style, lined with silk and finished with brass hardware.
