Cindy Sherman is having a huge retrospective at MOMA that is up (thank goodness) through June 2012 because I am SO bummed to miss it this weekend! It doesn’t open until February 26th and members previews don’t start until the 21st. The image above is from her infamous series of Untitled Film Stills which she did in the late 70’s. MOMA is also screening a selection of films that have influenced her (Carte Blanche: Cindy Sherman April 2nd thru 10th) which includes Maya Deren’s Meshes of The Afternoon, an old Bard film department favorite. That film was one of the first things I saw freshman year at Bard. The complete 1943 short is below…

Cindy Sherman is so great. It will be interesting to see her new work in this huge show. My favorite portrait of her was the movie “Guest of Cindy Sherman.” If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend this insightful movie. http://www.guestofcindysherman.com
