I can’t (or maybe won’t?) follow a recipe but still manage to own a lot of cookbooks. They give me ideas and I love the promise of a good recipe. And sometimes, when extremely motivated like with the Hotel De Crillon flourless chocolate cake which I sometimes make for a special man in my life, I will actually sort of follow the directions. The infamous Clinton Street Bakery which is only a few blocks from my place on the Lower East Side has been one of NYC’s go to brunch places for years. I’ve had their cakes, croissants and pancakes and the slew of homemade sauces, burgers and what have you and it’s well worth the sometimes two hour wait… Ok seriously, if you plan badly on a given Saturday morning, you may as well come here at 10 am to get on the list and come back for lunch. The small LES bakery has finally decided to share their recipes which means lots of inspiration (and maybe the occasional joy of proper measuring cups…)
