Bat For Lashes, Laura

This track just feels appropriate for fashion week… Bat For Lashes‘ “Laura”. It came out in July. Renata Litvinova photographed in Moscow in 2002 for Spoon (across from the KGB building).

Zero + Maria Cornejo, Spring 2013

Always one of the highlights of my week. Beautiful collection. One of my favorite dresses, which I bought while working as an assistant at Conde Nast in the late 90’s, was from Maria’s old shop on Mott St. I had no idea who she was then but wanted the dress so badly that I spent, what was at the time, a huge amount of money for me (around $175). More Zero + Maria Cornejo below… Continue reading

Wes Gordon, Spring 2013

Yesterday’s Wes Gordon presentation is one of my favorite collections so far. Even better than last season, a lot more edge, beautiful and sexy. I can’t believe he is only 26 (!!) and a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. More from the stunning collection below… Continue reading

Street Style

Don’t worry, this site is not about to become a street style blog and this will be one of the only times I indulge the need to post a head to toe photo of myself. But I was so happy to pretend it was fall yesterday and layer a little (a lot!) Plus I love the contrast of the burnt sienna of the ruffled Tucker dress with the pink Tory Burch bag and brown Frye boots.

Hedi Slimane, New YSL Ads

WWD posted today about the new YSL ads their recently hired Creative Director Hedi Slimane shot (the ads start running in Vogue Hommes this month). I really like his work, not just as a designer but also as a photographer. And yes, when news broke a few weeks ago that Hedi was moving YSL’s design studios from Paris to Los Angeles I thought that was very cool (though I imagine there may have been some staff rumblings from those happily based in Paris…) Looking forward to hearing lots of French in LA this fall.

Saturday Favorites, MM6 Martin Margiela & VPL

Honestly, I didn’t have the energy to post this on Saturday because I flew in on the red eye that morning and hit the ground running with no sleep and seven shows and presentations to go to. And what I have learned is I still do not function well without sleep. No matter how many times I swear I will never take the red eye again I somehow always end up doing it because losing a day seems like a waste but really the loss of sanity and sleep is way worse. I swear I will never take the red eye again. Anyway, I digress… I got to see some of my favorite lines Saturday including Victoria Bartlett‘s VPL and MM6 Martin Margiela. Admittedly, I don’t get to hit the Paris shows often these days so when Paris comes to me, I revel in it. Margiela was always one of my favorites to see there and I am a huge fan of this secondary line. Lots of great slouchy layers and knits. And VPL is always beautiful, I love all of her draping and shapes and again the knits were especially beautiful this season. I also really loved her color combos, like mixing different shades of green and mint. I am wearing a lot of mint mixed with olive and army green as well. More from both shows below… Continue reading

Tribune Standard, Spring 2013

I don’t know much about Tribune Standard other than the basic facts: Tawfik Mounayer designed for Liz Claiborne, The Gap and Ann Taylor and this is his own line. He makes simple beautiful clothes a girl can wear and feel good in. What more do we need? Continue reading
