Speaking of the punks and the Victorians, according to WWD today… “Next May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will stage “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” its big spring exhibition seeking to highlight the origins of the punk movement and draw direct connections to haute couture and ready-to-wear creations that it has inspired for the past three decades.” Isn’t it about time? This is by far my favorite fashion subject, this and the punks versus the socialites which is essentially the same topic for our modern times. I love this envelope clutch from the new “Super Nana” collaboration for Spring 2013 between NY based designer Lizzie Fortunato and illustrator Bernadette Pascua. The collection also includes printed canvas pouches, more embroidered clutches (all hand done on fair trade approved looms in India) and oversized totes with leather handles. I go on and on about the punks and the Victorians and where the two meet and apparently they met once again at Anna Sui last night. Such a great collection, reminds me of how I used to dress in high school (minus the brocade really…) This show made me happy, unlike much of the rest of the week. I don’t know but this NYFW more than any other has felt pedestrian and boring, NYFW is just not what it used to be with the mall like energy of “the tents” at Lincoln Center but I won’t get into that now because it will ruin the great mood of this awesome collection.
