I do my fair share of complaining about warm snowless winters but truth be told I get a secret joy from wearing suede boots in December without worrying about death to my favorite shoes weather. I’ve been obsessively wearing these Aldo boots for the last couple of weeks. I wear them with everything from jeans, leggings, tights and dresses. They will also be perfect next season at Coachella. And they look great with this sheath dress from one of my favorite boho chic brands, Calypso, underneath an Alexander Wang suede jacket, with a super inexpensive leather shoulder bag from Upper Haight. The dress is screaming for a beat up leather vintage belt too…

Jaguar Presents, Melrose Holiday Shopping Event

Ok, so there is nothing holiday related in the photo above (though it may have been taken in November) and it wasn’t even taken in West Hollywood yet there is something festive about it to me. Well, at least the dress (YSL, circa 2003) and the girl (Brazilian Karolina I think, she was with now long defunct Vision Models at the time) are both hot, right? And Milk & Honey in NYC, which is where this was taken ages ago, was festive in its heyday too! Anyway, I really know how to wander around my point this week don’t I? ‘Tis the season for holiday shopping and blatant disregard for ones financial state so feel free to ignore your credit card bills and head over to Melrose Avenue for fashion, food and fun. Day Look, Praying for Winter to Come

I know it’s blasphemous to say but I really want to feel the crisp breeze of winter and apparently the season has become extinct on both coasts. Winter dressing is so much fun, lots of layers and chunky sweaters like this one from Vince with a sweet pencil skirt from Valentino, a cozy shearling coat from DKNY and the perfect boots from Madewell. Where’s the ski hut? I want to be a snow bunny by the fire. No actual winter activities like skiing are needed, just a hot toddy, thank you.

Vintage Russian Vogue Shoot, 1999

I love this old shoot, no reason to post it other than that and since this week has turned into memory lane anyway I figure it’s just staying with the theme. Gleb Kosorukov shot this, it was the first fashion shoot I styled as Fashion Editor for Russian Vogue in the winter of 1999. The coat is Versace, we were at one of the big Moscow train stations and the model was standing amidst the rush hour crowd coming from the trains above. I loved the contrast of the white against the grey (in more ways than one…) Fiona Hayes, who is their Creative Director again now under the new Editor in Chief, Vica Davidova, was also there then (I love that woman. Fi, are you listening?). She gave me a ton of support for these kinds of shoots (so did Aliona, the ex-EIC who is now helming Russian Interview). Seems like a hundred years ago. Dior Pops Up in Miami (*and brings art & eye shadow)

Dior has joined the artist collaboration revolution and launched it with a pop up store at Art Basel. Delphine Arnault (yes, of the family Arnault and the brand’s deputy general manager) was in Miami last night to fete German artist Anselm Reyle who created a collection of bags and shoes as well as eye shadow, nail polish, costume jewelry and sunglasses, all in bright camouflage and Day-Glo colors. That’s the food truck parked outside the store below, the pop up store looks like a normal Dior boutique just with more color and lots of fun events going on aside from the Miss Dior bags for sale including manicures, photo booths, DJs (Mia Moretti), and foosball tables. Holiday Gift Guide, Part Two, Shiny Happy People

Ok I admit, I have a milk carton in my NY apartment with my old vinyl and for years I’ve been planning on getting a new record player so if anyone is thinking about it, this USB Turntable with Built-in CD Recorder is the perfect gift. Some old vinyl from The Damned wouldn’t hurt either…

or a Lady Gaga photography book shot by Terry Richardson out November 22nd, and grey glass fiber boots from Gianmarco Lorenzi featuring silver-tone stud and crystal embellishment,

A case of Whispering Angel Rose (my favorite, it’s $17 a bottle or $17 a glass at The Chateau…)

…an Alexander McQueen studded shoulder bag, and Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Volupte lipstick, my obsession the last two years, it goes on like a stain so you don’t need much and the nude color is to die for! The peach is gorgeous too… Wait, was I supposed to be shopping for other people?

Marni for H&M

Exciting fashion news! Marni‘s creative director Consuelo Castiglioni is doing a collaboration with H&M that is launching this Spring on (mark your calendars!) March 8, 2012 in over 250 stores worldwide and online. The print splattered collection will feature clothing and accessories with the classic vintage inspired Marni stamp. I love the old Marni prints, the one above is from a Russian ELLE fashion story I shot on a dacha outside of Moscow in 2004.
