Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova relaunched her website this morning and I am kind of dying over the image above she shot for Nike’s ad campaign. She did the site’s redesign with the digital agency Lightmaker.

New Shoe Line 80%20

80%20 Spring 2011 Video Lookbook from 8020shoes on Vimeo.

Totally digging these wedges from 80%20! And I am NOT usually a fan of wedges… Love the way designer Ce Ce Chin did her launch lookbook. The line is totally in tune with Williamsburg so makes perfect sense to shoot it on the bridge (again, all the art school Continue reading

Louis Vuitton Fall 2011

Aside from the fact that many of the other looks are completely unflattering I am totally obsessed with the whole vibe of this Louis Vuitton collection, especially those hats and white shoes! That’s probably the only thing I would adopt along with the thigh highs which I always love with heels. Maybe not for everyday wear or in the streets but there is nothing better for a sweet editorial or music video (and of course at home but that’s another story…) The black & white shots below are from an old Spoon shoot of mine from 2001 and the color ones are from a more recent 2008 shoot I did for WWD. The WWD shots below never ran though they were a part of a dresses story I did. I shot ten looks and they only needed five… Always a little heart breaking to lose images from a shoot. Either way, nothing hotter than some thigh highs with heels.

Valentino Fall 2011

There seems to be a concerted effort amongst the classically “older” brands to liven things up with a younger twist which gets me excited. Chanel and Louis Vuitton have been doing it well for years now and Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino did it beautifully this season. It’s a fun balance to have, keeping the old guard happy and giving things a new spin.

Burak Uyan Fall 2011

I woke up to the loveliest surprise in my inbox! The Fall 2011 collection from Paris-based designer Burak Uyan who has designed for Givenchy, Giambattista Valli, and Aperlaï. I also heard that Jeannie Lee from Satine in LA bought a few pairs for the store so be on the lookout! Jeannie, as usual, is ahead of the curve and fills her store with the newest, latest and greatest. Continue reading

Room Service…

It has been a whirlwind few months. I was going through some photos and stumbled on this gem which reminded me of how much fun we’ve been having, from Golden Globes to Sundance to New York Fashion Week and Oscars. I know the habit is to complain and moan about “Awards Season” here in LA but if truth be told, I kind of enjoy it. Call it my guilty pleasure… I refuse to get jaded.

Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2011

Loved the pantsuits, plaids, jumper and pretty dresses at Yves Saint Laurent though I could have lived without the boxy 80’s homage (looks 16 through 20 I think…) I don’t know anyone except a skinny 19 year old who can pull off a silhouette like that. But I am sure it will look great on her!

Alexander McQueen Fall 2011

I mean… Wow. What more is there to say. I doubt anyone watching can ever truly forget that McQueen himself is gone, a little over a year ago now. But kudos to Sarah Burton for keeping his spirit alive and well. Phenomenal.

Rodarte at MOCA

I went to the Rodarte: States of Matter exhibition opening Friday evening at MOCA at the Pacific Design Center and got a chance to chat with Kate and Laura Mulleavy about everything from their design influences to their favorite films (“Band of Brothers”). It was amazing to see the “Black Swan” costumes up close, they really do have a beautiful sculptural effect. The show runs thru June 5th.

Uniform Project’s ‘Pilot Series’

If you know me you also know I am a sucker for a good environmental cause especially when it collides with the world of fashion. Summer Rayne Oakes is doing the Uniform Project’s ‘Pilot Series’ challenge, which features a new tastemaker each month, wearing ONE little black dress all month, in an effort to increase awareness for sustainable and responsible fashion and at the same time raise funds for a global cause. The material used for the dress, a silk-hemp blend, hand-woven Continue reading
