It is freezing in NYC. LA has ruined my Russian soul and spoiled me with warm winters and all I want to do is get right back in my car and drive back to the West Coast. Or at least shop for some fabulous faux fur, which is always a stylish alternative. There are so many great options in faux, even Lanvin has a gorgeous coat this season (below). I photographed and styled this shoot a few years ago on the Grasmere estate in Rhinebeck NY, which was built in 1824 by Janet Livingston Montgomery. Thinking about the open road today. Starting to plan Nashville. It was one of the cities I had to miss on my road trip this summer but I haven’t forgotten. So many adventures still to be had, food to eat, music to hear, friends to find and books to read. It’s not always easy holding onto your spirit especially as we get older but it’s so important. Learning and exploring is a great gift. Don’t ever stop.
I saw some killer over the knee boots yesterday at the Bally spring 2015 press preview so rest assured our favorite shoe trend for fall is not going anywhere next season and it’s safe to stock up on some sexy options which will be worn in perfectly by the time you switch out your heavy threads for light chiffon. New favorite track on repeat. Have been hearing it for months but something so perfect this morning about the beats, the words, the flow of this “Stolen Dance” track from German based DJs Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch aka Milky Chance. They released it on their debut album in 2013. Seems a bit belated to realize but I’m a huge fan of ‘folktronica’. Best musical genre since Baltimore Club.
Vimeo’s original series High Maintenance kicks off with three of six new episodes today. I watched the older ones back to back a while ago and they are painfully funny in a Portlandia gets high with Williamsburg sort of way. Created by husband and wife duo Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, they are short snippets about a pot dealer played by Sinclair who goes observantly in and out of his customers lives, who range from a hysterical LA assistant to the couch potato bear. You don’t have to be a smoker (don’t worry Mom, I’m not, I swear, if only for the logistical reasons of not wanting to weigh 300 pounds after binging on grilled cheese and pickles, which I always imagine would be my go to craving.) There are several gems to choose from but I think this may be my favorite. Continue reading
Burberry’s wool cashmere blend sweater is one of the things that gets me excited for winter. I like to call this my Rhinebeck survival kit, which is incomplete without Kiehl’s, a must have for every beauty cupboard. Sunscreen is a necessity year round and their Facial Fuel SPF 15 is non-greasy and great for all skin types. Dr. Lancer, who is a miracle worker on skin (I spent several months going to him for microdermabrasion facials a few years ago and it was like a youth serum for my face) finally has a skin care line out. The lip serum is a good addition to any beauty routine especially during the dreary winter months when everything seems to droop a little more than usual when the sun goes down at 5pm on the East Coast.
