The Naked and Famous

New Zealanders The Naked and Famous are playing at Bardot in Hollywood this Monday night. I love their ethereal dreamy sound. It has a bit of an MGMT quality to it. The track above is from their debut album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ which came out September 6th. Love this video as well.

The Bird & The Bee

Hall & Oats‘ Greatest Hits was the first album I ever owned as a seven-year-old Russian immigrant growing up in Baltimore so when I heard The Bird & The Bee‘s cover of “I Can’t Go For That” a few nights ago I went mad for it. The genius of Hall & Oats will never fade. LA-based Inara George (“the bird”) and Greg Kurstin (“the bee”) released their new album Guiltless Pleasures Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates March 23, 2010. This is their second album on Blue Note Records.

Satine & Louis Verdad

Satine‘s multi talented Jeannie Lee did a collaboration with Louis Verdad on a few really cute pieces that went on sale today at her 3rd Street boutique in West Hollywood. The launch of the Satine in house label includes the super sexy dress above as well as a corset and the perfect pencil skirt. Those select pieces are also available at her online boutique which is going to be re-launching in January so expect lots of cool surprises from one of LA’s most talented buyers and fashion voices. If you haven’t been in the store for a while she moved it across the street almost two years ago and filled it with even more amazing designers like Thakoon, Alexander Wang and Isabel Marant. Jeannie has one of the best eyes in LA for clothes so is usually way ahead of stuff and the first to bring something here which I love about her. Staying true to that tradition, she will be the first and only boutique in LA to carry some key pieces from Anne Valerie Hash’s Spring Summer 2011 collection which I am completely obsessed with. Jeannie and I were trading notes recently and it turns out she will be selling the same dress I put Taryn Manning into last week. www.satineboutique.com

Oxfam & Esquire

Lots of great stuff going on last night at Esquire‘s annual Oxfam Party hosted by Joy Bryant and Kristin Davis at the Esquire House in the hills of Los Angeles. On display were Rankin‘s photographs of the survivors of the humanitarian situation in the Congo which is the worst in the world. Last year 900,000 people were forced to flee their homes. Oxfam International was formed in 1995 by a group of independent non-governmental organizations to work directly in the communities to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice all over the world. Along with doing a good deed by supporting a great organization it was also fun to wander through the gorgeous house and see the amazing art on the walls including Ed Ruscha, Richard Prince, Jack Pierson, Marilyn Minter and Jean Michel Basquiat. I got a little hooked on the Woodford Reserve Bourbon too which was amazing. To top the night off I ran into my old friend Wendell Brown who is a fashion editor at Esquire in NYC. www.oxfam.org

Yigal Azrouel in LA!

Love the new shoe line New York based designer Yigal Azrouel is launching for January. I just did a re-see with the Spring Summer 2011 collection that he showed in New York back in September and have to admit I loved what I saw on the racks at Sunset Tower much more than what was shown on the runway. There were some gorgeous leather jackets and jumpsuits and long dresses that somehow got left behind on the rack during fashion week. Luckily they’re here now and look amazing. The fabrics are gorgeous as well, silks and leathers that feel like butter. There is also talk of a store opening in Los Angeles. Kind of obsessed with Yigal himself too, good guy and great energy. Also fell in love with his men’s line. Those slouchy men’s sweaters will look brilliant with jeans and boots and they feel like heaven. There was a killer military jacket for men that I wanted to swipe too. Would be so cute over those white lacy dresses and again, my leather riding boots.
