Google is venturing into fashion with a new Web site and virtual designer boutiques. I’m not really clear on how this will differ from just searching for an item on Google’s engine and being directed to the online retailer that carries it since you won’t actually be able to purchase anything directly on the site itself but everyone seems to be buzzing about it and I am curious to see it. The site is called Boutiques.com and simulates just that, with a personalized shopping experience where customers can set up their own virtual boutique. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker the designers that have been invited to set up their own stores on the site include Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Cynthia Rowley, Marchesa and Erin Fetherston. The site launches this Wednesday and will use image-recognition technology that Google acquired when it bought Like.com earlier this year. Yeah, I’m not tech savvy enough yet to get it either and already overwhelmed with all the online options available but will happily join the rally in anticipation of the surprise…
