The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower this week and absolutely loved it. My two best friends in high school were the gay guy and a chubby theater obsessed girl and I was the punk with the blue hair (shaved oddly on one side) so I felt right at home with the main characters who were funny and heartbreaking to watch. Ezra Miller is the new Leo for sure and Emma Watson has never looked better. The film is a great rendition of being the outcast, and as is often the case outcasts know the best music, the best art and the best books. The soundtrack has some oldies but goodies on it like Dear God by XTC, which we lived off of in the 9th grade as well as L7, New Order, Love & Rockets, and of course The Smiths. It’s funny, I had the same reaction as Emma Watson’s character after spending my first few months at Bard, “It’s another world out there and it gets better.” Words to live by… Watch the trailer, which doesn’t do the film justice, and L7’s “Pretend We’re Dead,” below.
