Paris, 70 Years Ago, Giovanni Boldini

I really wanted to post this painting because it is so stunning it takes your breath away, you can almost taste the era and it comes with the most amazing story. Apparently the painting was found in an apartment in Paris that had been abandoned at the onset of World War II when the resident, one Mrs. de Florian, was forced to leave the city. Mrs. de Florian was the granddaughter of Marthe de Florian, “a beautiful French actress and socialite of the Belle Époque” who was also the painter Giovanni Boldini‘s muse. Oh, and I also discovered this really cool blog at the same time. More of Boldini’s paintings below. I am completely obsessed.
