Tasting Dinner, Obica

photo 3

Last night we went to a tasting dinner at Obicà Mozzarella Bar Pizza e Cucina, where we sampled really fantastic wines, paired with the restaurant’s fresh pastas and lamb, eggplant and mozzarella and amazing desserts (I splurged on carbs, sugar and fun all evening). The night was hosted and curated by Obica’s President and Sommelier Wine Director Raimondo Boggia, who was there to tell us about each wine in detail. The full menu and more photos below. They do these tastings on a regular basis, so highly recommended.

A_RUTILIA WINE
My favorite wine of the evening.

The Menu:

First Course
Lambrusco metodo Classico Rose’ Emilia Romagna DOC NV – 2010 – Cantina della Volta-
Unusual Lambrusco made with 2nd fermentation in the bottle, like the best Champagne Rosé

Fritto di Mare e dell’Orto
Fried Squid, Shrimp and Seasonal Vegetables

Second Course
Kerner IGT 2010 – Zanotelli
A grafting of a red (Schiava) and white (Riesling) variety

Bucatini cacio e pepe
Bucatini Pasta with Pecorino Romano and Fresh Ground Black pepper

Third Course
Tintilia del Molise DOC 2008 – Salvatore
An unusual Italian wine from Italy’s second-smallest region that produces only a tiny amount of wine each year. In 2011 has been created Tintilia del Molise DOC title but, even despite this, Tintilia and its wines are still relatively rare.

Costolette d’agnello
Pistachio Crusted Lamb Chop, Potato Puree, Spinach Strudel

Dessert
Ben Rye – Passito di Pantelleria DOC 2013 – Donna Fugata
An extraordinary meditation wine, it’s a sweet ending of an elegant dinner.

Choice of:
Semifreddo alle mandorle
Homemade almond parfait

Ananas Carpaccio
Thinly Sliced Pineapple
