Rizzoli is releasing Rebel Chic focused on style icon Katharine Hepburn, tomorrow October 2nd, with texts by Jean Druesedow, Barbara Cohen-Stratyner, Nancy MacDonell, Judy Samelson, and Kohle Yohannan. There is an accompanying exhibition at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center, from October 18th through January 20th 2013.
Daphne Merkin has written a really great article in the October issue of Elle exploring the topic dujour, sex, namely BDSM sex. These are the next few books on my reading list, though I’m halfway through Katie Roiphe‘s new book of essays, In Praise of Messy Lives, and am already in love with her. I like her honesty and the way she approaches subjects which so many people shy away from and I love the Jane Austen chapter. A.M. Homes‘ new book May We Be Forgiven, her first in six years, also just came out and she will be at Skylight Books in Los Feliz signing books on Wednesday, Oct 10th at 7:30 pm. And if you are in NY this week, Artists Space is hosting the book launch and reading for Chris Kraus‘ new book Summer of Hate on October 2nd at 7pm. London based Still Corners signed to the infamous Sub Pop last year and just released “Fireflies”, the A-side to their new single “Hearts of Fools,” coming out in anticipation of their second album slated for spring of 2013. It’s pretty beautiful, especially Tessa Murray‘s magical synth bred voice.
The 11th annual West Hollywood Book Fair is happening tomorrow, Sunday September 30th from 10am to 6pm at the West Hollywood Library and Park at 625 North San Vicente Boulevard, just south of Santa Monica Blvd. There will be a slew of authors including Eugene Yelchin (Anton‘s unlce) who wrote and illustrated (see above) the children’s book Breaking Stalin’s Nose, which won a Newbery Honor award. There is also a culinary pavilion with cooking classes and demos from cook book authors and chefs (Rocco Dispirito is there at 1:30pm… I’m just saying, he’s kind of hot).
