Murray’s Cheese Bar

I don’t care how well I know the scriptures of being vegan and raw (and I will not argue that it is the healthiest way to live, it really is) but my favorite meal is still stinky cheese, salami, some fresh figs, honey, nuts and serious wine. There I fess up. So I am thrilled to hear that Murray’s Cheese opened up a Murray’s Cheese Bar (!!) a few doors down from the shops retail location on Bleecker Street. It will be one of my first stops come NYFW in September. Open daily 5pm-1am, 264 Bleecker St. Continue reading

First Date Look, Saturday Night, Los Feliz

I can’t lie, my dating life has been a bit disappointing the past few months. Someone broke my heart not too long ago so in a highly unadvised attempt to get over it I went back to an old comfort zone of a man I’ve dated on and off since I moved to LA, who I really don’t belong with, which ended as it always does: me realizing yet again that I can not be with this man and would be entirely unhappy if the universe didn’t intervene time and time again to point this out to me. Anyway, I digress. I have a date Saturday that I’m looking forward to so need an outfit. I have a new dress in a pretty nude color and yesterday I got a new Levi’s jacket (thanks ladies of the Haus!) and these Aldo wedges I got a few weeks ago that I’m obsessed with. I love the color and they’re super comfortable. I’m trying not to over dress because I am a total over dresser for dates. I love stilettos but I think this is more of a casual thing, we are probably staying in Silverlake or Los Feliz so I think the wedge is the one. And I’m still having a love affair with pastels. Love this Acne dress and Fossil hobo bag! Continue reading

RIP Helen Gurley Brown

“Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.” RIP Helen Gurley Brown, legendary editor, kick ass lady and inspirational soul all around. Wish I had been around when she was editing Cosmo, I would have loved to work for her and learn from her. Ms.Brown in her office in the Sixties, above.

Un Bateau Pour Capri

Eau d’Italie is premiering Un Bateau Pour Capri this September in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Amalfi coast resort, Le Sirenuse. I’ve been obsessed with another perfume of theirs, Jardin du Poete, which launched last September and is sadly starting to run low in my bathroom. And if you haven’t decided on a place to spend the rest of August the Amalfi coast is definitely a good one. If anyone wants to throw me on a flight and let me sunbathe on their boat I am very good with last minute packing. Some dreamy images of the well known (amongst a certain crowd) resort below… Continue reading

Olympics 2012

There is nothing that makes me cry like the Olympics, especially women’s gymnastics. Blame it on my Russian roots but I pray for and celebrate these girls like nothing else. I don’t care what country they come from but am just in awe of their strength, dedication and tremendous hard work. Yeah, it sounds cliche but who cares. Look at what they can do??? BEYOND. Now THIS is news and worth all the love and admiration they receive. Watch the full video of Gabby Douglas‘ floor routine here. I dare you to try and not sob like a baby at the sheer will and beauty of it. And did I hear right? The women brought home most of the US gold all around this year… Thanks ladies! We are SO proud!

Godard in Santa Monica

There is a double feature of Godard’s Breathless and Band of Outsiders playing tonight in Santa Monica on Montana and 14th street. If you haven’t seen one or both of these films you should, especially on the big screen. Buy tickets here. You can hit R & D Kitchen for some food before or after (try the deviled eggs, they have the best ones in LA from what I can find). Happy heat wave!

Summer Soiree Worthy Dresses

InStyle magazine is hosting their annual summer soiree tonight and although I already have my polka dot number ready to go for the night I thought these dresses were super cute. Lately the discussion has been “are we over the dress?” and while one of my bffs definitely kills it in trousers (and we even considered a trouser look for tonight’s festivities) in the end, the dress won out. Clockwise from the top, Dorothy Perkins peach pleated maxi dress, Helmut Lang’s shale drape-front dress, a Lanvin silk tulle grecian dress and Prabal Gurung’s drape back halter dress.

Melissa Palichat Shoot

I photographed and styled Melissa Palichat, a DJ (known as Mz.Poppinz) and classical violinist from Miami via Pittsburgh a few weeks ago and these are some of my favorite shots and outtakes. Melissa is a talented classically trained musician (she studied at Carnegie Mellon!) who combines her classical training with DJ’ing, putting on some truly incredible performances. I love her music and fell in love with her spirit during our shoot. She is stunning but also warm, easygoing and fun. She wanted some edge in the photos and was so open and adventurous about the process. Nothing like a rad new chic to add to our roster. Can you guess where we shot? More from our day in LA below… Continue reading
