The Mercantile Shop

Stylist Monica Schweiger, who used to be the West Coast Fashion Editor for WWD before going freelance five years ago, just opened a great little boutique called The Mercantile Shop in Healdsburg, CA with her childhood friend Kelly Ferris. The ladies carry mens and womens lines including The West Is Dead, Levi’s Vintage, Earnest Sewn, Taylor Stitch, Wren, Current Elliot, LNA, Cheap Monday as well as accessories from Leigh & Luca, Jacqueline Rose, and Me & Arrow. The F Bomb

Diplo, Express Yourself, New Orleans Bounce

I heard this track the other day and completely flipped over it. I hadn’t heard of the New Orleans Bounce scene until just now (it’s been around for almost twenty years) though I have been following Baltimore Club, which has a similar vibe, for a lot of years because whenever I go visit the parents in B’more I inevitably end up on a Club radio station and the beats are insane. This track from Philly based Diplo (Thomas Wesley Pentz) with Nicky Da B is mind blowing, the layers, beyond. It’s off his new EP that was just released (his first since 2004). Kiehl’s has a few new products for men that they just launched and since I like men but don’t give them enough attention on this blog, I thought I’d give them some love… There’s a Facial Fuel Sky Flyin’ Foaming Multi-Gel cleanser (just remember foaming cleanser perhaps?), the Facial Fuel “No Shine” Hydrator after shave (“A breakthrough formulation allowing men to control shine and sweat while providing 24-hour hydration”) and Facial Fuel UV Guard SPF 50+, which is an ultra lightweight and fast-absorbing sunscreen. Aurora Tower’s House in St.John & Elle Magazine

A year ago I flew to my friend Aurora Tower‘s gorgeous house in St.John to do a shoot for Elle magazine which is now running in the July issue. Aurora designed and built the house herself using sustainable materials and eco conscience design; everything inside and out is solar powered and runs on sun and rain water. The first time we went there was to celebrate and inaugurate the space when it was finally finished, in May 2009. Both trips were phenomenal and made me fall in love with the island of St.John which admittedly is not hard to do.
