James Franco, Howl

Hulu is showing James Franco‘s film “Howl”! Franco plays the young Ginsberg in the film, which I saw at Sundance last year and loved! It has so many great layers, black and white, animation, a lot of experimental stuff to add to an already intriguing story of Allen Ginsberg‘s poem and subsequent trial for obscenity. Filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman made a really special and amazing film and it’s a total shame that it didn’t get more attention or theatre time. Now you can see it here…

Green Apple Potato Salad for a Happy 4th of July

I had friends over for food and wine last weekend and people kept asking me for the potato salad recipe so here goes, just in time for July 4th if you’re grilling. The secret ingredient is above. I don’t really do measurements so it’s a fly by the shape of your chopping skills kind of thing but it’s such an easy recipe, the margin of error is small. Little Dom’s

Little Dom’s in Los Feliz has been a favorite haunt of mine since they opened a few years ago but I’ve recently re-discovered how amazing the newest menu is (Oven Roasted Sunchokes with lemon and Butter?… Roasted Zucchini & Eggplant w/ Buratta, Crispy Buckwheat, Mint & Currants?) They are planning on opening a Studio City location as well as a hotel bar next door to Cafe 101 which is also one of their hot spots (Honey Nut Milkshake anyone?) in about six months so no one will have to drive too far for their insane food and Monday Night Suppers where they offer a prix-fix dinner with an appetizer, main and dessert for $15 and bottles of their namesake house wine for $10. No joke, the food is so good and the supper deal is beyond. It’s what Dominick’s in West Hollywood does on Sunday nights…

Johnny Was At The Grove

Johnny Was got it’s name from an old Bob Marley song which the vibe of the place has stayed loyal to for almost 25 years. I am in love with their Gypset Style (which they also sell copies of) vintage inspired dresses, separates and accessories. The Santa Monica store opened barely a year ago and last week they arrived at The Grove in West Hollywood. Lots of other stores worldwide carry their lines (they have a few within the brand, my favorite is Love & Liberty which is what most of the dresses above are) including Fred Segal, Nordtsrom’s, Bloomingdales, Saks and Neiman’s.

Wicked Flats!

I know its called champagne and HEELS but every once in a while I stumble on a pair of flats that make me fall off my chair. Example A above. Yes, they are Aldo and they are only $60! I mean…. What? It’s a known fact I am obsessed with Aldo, and no, they don’t pay me to say that although they do occasionally let me pick out a pair of heels for myself throughout the season but that’s because I am OBSESSED. Not the other way around… The obsession came first, the rewards after.
