Stella McCartney Resort 2012

Now this is a garden party I want to attend. What a great way to start the day. Happy, relaxed looks from Stella McCartney that remind me summer is actually here instead of this doomed June gloom.

Seghesio Vineyard’s Arneis

A friend gave me a bottle of the 2009 Seghesio Arneis a few weeks ago and it’s really great. The wines from Seghesio are not very expensive and taste amazing. I wasn’t familiar at all with this Russian River Valley family owned vineyard or the Arneis variety but am totally loving it. To buy

Robin Derrick Leaves British Vogue

Robin Derrick, the Creative Director of British Vogue who I have admired for years announced a few days ago he is leaving the magazine. Unlike other recent Vogue departures across the pond this decision seems to be his own after 17 years with the magazine. He is by far one of the most brilliant art directors alive. I took a meeting with him thanks to my old Paris agent years ago, I think it was 2003 and he looked at my photography and I swear to god, his exact words were “yes, you could shoot for us.” I almost fell off my chair with joy. Their Fashion Director Kate Phelan is also leaving after announcing she will be the new Creative Director of Topshop in London. One of my all time favorite magazine covers is the one above shot by Nick Knight and designed by Robin in 2003.

Givenchy Resort 2012

Leave it to the usual suspects to get me out of my bored doldrums. Feeling slightly uninspired by the clothes I am seeing today so grateful to Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy for making me swoon. This will probably be his last resort collection for the house as he will most likely be going to Dior to take over as Creative Director, just like I predicted in early March. Would be amazing if Olivier Theyskens took over at Givenchy. Or maybe Haider Ackermann will take over for Tisci. I am guessing all the announcements will come in July with just enough time for each new installment to garner lots of press and make an appearance during Spring/Summer 2012 Paris shows in October.

Lanvin Resort 2012

Finally a resort collection to drool over… Lanvin of course. Thank goodness for Alber Elbaz who also had a birthday party in NYC last night at Central Park’s Boathouse. The kids stuff he showed during resort is also freakishly cute, dying over it. Click for more pics… Continue reading

An Object of Beauty

Just finished Steve Martin‘s latest novel “An Object of Beauty,” which came out last November and it is so good! It centers on an uber-ambitious young art dealer in NYC in the 90’s and how she works her way up. I love Steve Martin’s quiet observational pacing and the characters he creates. It’s like reading about a girl you went to college with. Too familiar and believable. He also inserts images of amazing works of art that connect to the story throughout the book including one of my favorite paintings above, by Dorothea Tanning called “A Little Night Music”. She did the painting in 1946, the same year she married Max Ernst. It’s an amazing surrealist image that I saw years ago at the Tate in London and got attached to. If there was a painting I could own in my lifetime this would be it. And also maybe something by Andrew Wyeth (“Christina’s World”) and anything by John Singer Sargent, and maybe a Francis Bacon (again, anything will do) and an Alice Neel too. Ok, I also really want a Balthus… and an Edward Hopper and something by Eric Fischl. A show of Dorothea Tanning’s work, “Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams,” opened this weekend on June 11th at the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane and will be up through October 2, 2011.

John Singer Sargent “Die Töchter Boit” (1882) owned by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston above and something from Eric Fischl’s recent series, “Beach Scene With Pink Hat” (2006) below.

La Clinica For Skin & Body

Launched in 1995 by Australian-based Rita-Marie Aloschi-Hopfner, La Clinica beauty line is not only certified organic but seems to deliver as promised. I can’t remember if they sent me samples or I got them in a gift bag recently but either way I just started using the Gly C Refine Micro Dermabrasion Facial Scrub this weekend and am totally in love with it! My Laura Mercier scrub I have been using the past couple month ran out so I grabbed this stuff off my beauty supply shelf and got immediately attached. It has a super fine granular quality to it so you don’t Continue reading

Marc Jacobs’ Oh Lola!

Speaking of fabulous beauty products coming up… Marc Jacobs is launching a new fragrance this summer called Oh Lola! Again, I am completely seduced and mesmerized by the bottle itself.
