Show Media & Kehinda Wiley

Kind of obsessed with this project Show Media is doing with NYC taxicabs. Last year they inaugurated the project with an amazing roster of Alex Katz, Shirin Neshat and Yoko Ono. This week two more of my favorite artists, Kehinda Wiley and Chuck Close will have their work on display on top of taxis throughout the city. Show Media supplies all the advertising to NYC cabs and boasts that over 5 million New Yorkers will see the art over the course of the next month.

The Fun Begins…

I realized this morning over coffee in the lobby of the Beverly Hilton the reason why this feels more exciting to me than all of the Fashion Weeks I have attended over the last decade. Fashion Weeks the world over take place in cities preoccupied with their own lives whereas in LA the Awards, whichever one happens to be going on, are the focus of everyone’s attention. It’s very concentrated and really feels like a team effort, kind of like on Thanksgiving when you know Continue reading

Beautiful Decay

I admit, I am a bit of a Gawker addict and when I was stalking their page today I stumbled on this post about North Brother Island in the East River between the Bronx and Rikers Island. Apparently until the ’40s it was used as a quarantine hospital and has been abandoned and closed to the public ever since which reminded me of all of these amazing places in Russia I used to shoot in with Deborah Turbeville when I worked as her stylist for a myriad of Italian Vogue shoots. I love “shabby chic” at its best, which is what these places represent. It’s romantic in the most glamorous way.

Amarone Bottega, Il Vino Prêt-á-Porter

Alpinestars designer Denise Focil has partnered with the Italian wine maker Distilleria Bottega to create Amarone Bottega, Il vino Prêt-á-porter. I haven’t had a chance to taste the wine but am sure it will be as fabulous as its design and creator. The design of the white leather case and bottle label are beautiful, I love the metal studs. Can’t wait to try it.

The Duke Spirit

The Duke Spirit – Everybody’s Under Your Spell by buzzbands
The Duke Spirit — Procession by buzzbands

Digging these tracks from London’s The Duke Spirit. They have a Sonic Youth/Silversun Pickups sound I love. Their third album named “Bruiser” is due for release sometime early this year.

Giuseppe Zanotti

I got a box full of beautiful shoes from Giuseppe Zanotti for this Sunday. I love his designs. When we used to go see the new collections in Milan during fashion shows he would always let us order a few pairs for ourselves which was not only genius marketing but very generous. Every season he does sexy and surprisingly comfortable and wearable shoes, always with a gorgeous stiletto heel.

Getting Ready for This Sunday…

Last year’s Golden Globes rainy aftermath at The Beverly Hilton, January 2010

There’s something about a collective energy that makes me both melancholy and incredibly happy. The excitement of a big event, the reward of hard work and feeling like you’re part of something bigger than you thrills me more as I get older, not less. I refuse to become Continue reading
