The Fighter

I’m putting my money on ‘The Fighter’ to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Such a fantastic and seamless film. The writing, the casting, the acting, the art direction and of course the direction overall. Amazingly well done. Love David O. Russell from his “Spanking The Monkey” days and absolutely in awe of Melissa Leo, Amy Adams, Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. Phenomenal. It’s also going to be fun watching the Golden Globes this Sunday and counting up all of their wins.

Sundance 2011, Films To Watch

‘Kaboom’ Directed by Greg Araki, Starring Thomas Dekker, Haley Bennett, Juno Temple, Jimmy Duval, Kelly Lynch

I’ve been dying to do a list of films I want to see at this year’s Sundance Film Festival but am kind of exhausted (but not complaining!) from prepping for this weekend’s Golden Globes all week while simultaneously covering late night events and also prepping a shoot for Monday, so I’m going to make it short, sweet and to the point. These are a few of the films I plan on seeing next weekend at Sundance (last year I managed to see three a day which isn’t much compared to some people’s schedule but pretty significant considering the amount of late night parties we couldn’t pass up). Whether it’s the story, the cast, the director or all of the above these are films I’m excited about.

‘Like Crazy’ Directed by Drake Doremus, Starring Anton Yelchin & Jennifer Lawrence

‘The Music Never Stopped’ Directed by Jim Kohlberg, Starring JK Simmons, Lou Taylor Pucci, Cara Seymour and Julia Ormond

‘Higher Ground’ Directed by Vera Farmiga, Starring Vera Farmiga

‘The Ledge’ Directed by Matthew Chapman, Starring Charlie Hunnam, Liv Tyler, Terence Howard

‘Meek’s Cutoff’, Directed by Kelly Reichardt, Starring Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, Shirley Henderson, Neal Huff

‘My Idiot Brother’ Directed by Jesse Peretz, Starring Zooey Deschanel, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer

And of course Miranda July’s ‘The Future’ and Elgin James’ ‘Little Birds’, both of which I already waxed poetic about and can’t wait to see.

Helena de Natalio

Obsessing over this clutch that’s in my Golden Globes pile of options. I love Helena de Natalio bags, designed by Helen Hoppock who I discovered a few years ago at a trade show in Vegas of all places while still working as West Coast Fashion Editor for WWD. She was in her second season at the time but I became obsessed with her bags and have been wearing them every season since.

Golden Globes 2011, Dresses That Inspire Me…

NATALIE PORTMAN for BLACK SWAN

… in Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2011 …I’m guessing she will wear Dior or Rodarte in which case it would have to be something designed for her for the Globes because there is nothing that was shown on either runway that would work so I’m just going to put her into what I’m obsessed with…

MICHELLE WILLIAMS for BLUE VALENTINE

… in Alberta Ferretti Spring Summer 2011

JENNIFER LAWRENCE for WINTER’S BONE

… in Giorgio Armani Pre-Fall 2011

JULIA STILES for DEXTER

… in Carven Spring Summer 2011.. I know it’s totally unconventional but someone needs to take some risks and I’m pretty sure Julia Stiles could pull this off. Totally sexy…

AMY ADAMS for THE FIGHTER

… in Luisa Beccaria Spring Summer 2011 ….This beautiful creation above from Luisa Beccaria was actually supposed to be mine for a client but sadly, as of this morning, it has slipped through our fingers (or gotten stuck in Milan as the official version goes…) We had it for a moment and are getting something equally great. But whoever the lucky soul is in this town that has this gem, wear it in good health, and if it happens to be with Amy Adams (who I was dying to dress because I thought she was phenomenal in ‘The Fighter’) well, it’s meant to be because it’s what I would have put you in anyway…

J Mendel and Audi Kick Off Golden Globes Party Week

Audi and J.Mendel kicked off Golden Globes party week last night with a packed house at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood. Every young gorgeous name this side of Sunset was there to get in the mood for next Sunday’s big day with lots of familiar faces including half the cast of Modern Family and Glee as well as a few cuties from CW’s Hellcats. And the car… sigh… ah, the car. Audi is one of my favorites so I had to shoot a car porn pic. Love the dresses (Zoe Saldana, Julianne Hough, Paz De LA Huerta, and Sofia Vargera were all wearing J.Mendel) and love the one above that seems to be strategically placed in front of a Damien Hirst piece I didn’t know Cecconi’s had. Nice one.

Giorgio Armani, Pre-Fall 2011 for the Golden Globes

I’m working on my dress list of who should wear what to the Golden Globes next Sunday and these two dresses from Giorgio Armani‘s Pre-Fall 2011 collection are high up on my list. Gorgeous. Maybe for Claire Danes or Jennifer Lawrence… Amy Adams would rock one of these as well…

Love this old one from The Pierces, a sister duo from NYC via Alabama. Their new album, “You & I” came out in October 2010.

M.I.A. – Vicki Leekx by Hypetrak
M.I.A. released a new mix tape on New Year’s Eve 2010 called Vicki Leekx, with the self titled 36-minute track. Love the long track and the way she layers sound. Also love the “Bad Girls” track.

French Vogue Update

Well, it’s official; Emmanuelle Alt will be the new Editor in Chief of French Vogue, starting with the April issue, which will be the first with her name at the top of the masthead. Kudos. Is it true that our fab and favorite Carine Roitfeld was fired for all that love she gave Tom Ford in her December/ January issue? I heard it ruffled some feathers at big advertisers LVMH… Apparently 2010 was the year of amazing Vogue editors getting fired left and right.
