Rough Trade Records, Brooklyn

Rough_Trade_SamplerRough_Trade_Sampler

Just because I sold the last of my high school collection of vinyl a few weeks ago (I had to de-clutter, it was sad but necessary) doesn’t mean I don’t still romanticize a walk through an old school record store. Rough Trade, who has everyone from Arcade Fire and Belle and Sebastian to The Decemberists and Jenny Lewis on their label, clearly has the same worldview and are opening up a new record store in Brooklyn this week at 64 North 9th Street.

Weekend Reading

LOfficiel Paris 06-029

Just read this great article from i-D, who relaunched their website with a ton of interesting content, “When Did Fashion Become Porn.” Love the dialogue and ideas. I am guilty of the photo above from a fashion shoot a few years ago. I love shooting sexually charged images but I think the dialogue between model and photographer changes when the female gaze is responsible. I shoot women the way I want to be seen rather than how I see women. Also, along those same lines of cultural dialogue on feminism and music, fashion, etc, there is a great profile on Taylor Swift in this week’s New York magazine. Happy rainy day!

Wish List, Gift List!

hermes spray

I love a good gift list. If I had all the money in the world my friends and family would be so spoiled but in the meantime some fabulous and still (sort of) affordable gifts above and below, starting with one of my favorite scents, the Hermes Eau d’orange verte Eau de cologne spray. Below, wine, books, candles, jewelry, music, films and gadgets for every spoiled brat in your life (including me!) Did I mention the Manolo Blahnik camouflage heels? Yes, they are on the list too. The Pickle Shack

pickles beer

Full disclosure, I am Russian (and a Jew!) so I have a distinct biased affinity for pickles; I will eat pickled anything. So it didn’t take much convincing for me to trek from the East Village to Brooklyn to check out the three week old Pickle Shack that Brooklyn Brine just gave birth to. The shack (with an awesome backyard garden) is all vegetarian with vegan options but not at all what you would expect. I got the cheddar cheese, carmelized onion, pickle sandwich (with Continue reading
