RIP Lou Reed & Carlos Batts

lou

RIP Lou Reed. The Velvet Underground and Nico, photographed above by Stephen Shore, got me through some rough years in high school. So much talent gone last week. Our friend from high school, Carlos Batts also passed away last week unexpectedly. He was only 40. RIP Carlos and Lou. Continue reading

The Big Cleanse

pollini shoes

Anyone who follows me on Instagram or is friends with me on Facebook knows I have been doing some serious cleaning and organizing. Working as a magazine editor and photographer and stylist for twenty years you suddenly wake up with a LOT of stuff. Everything from the usual clothing and accessories that you haven’t worn in years to boxes of old prints and tear sheets for portfolios that never see the light of day anymore now that everything is digital and online. So I decided to de-clutter and throw a lot of things out, which has led me to find a ton of things I had thought I lost, or forgot I had. Below some of the treasures I uncovered in my East Village apartment, including old photos and a letter from Miranda July, which she sent me when she was putting together her first Big Miss Moviola film compilation, and above a pair of brand new Pollini loafers, which are so timely even after sitting in my closet unworn for ten years (!) Oh and a few things I finally parted with. Continue reading

Tsubo NYC Dinner

FY0A7462-2

Though there are lots more photos below from the dinner I hosted last Thursday with Tsubo in the East Village, the one above sums it up pretty well: wine, the girls and gorgeous shoes. Yes, there were boys at the dinner too and their kicks were equally sexy but the boots above are the ones I have been sporting for the past month myself and so they’ve got a special place in my fashion heart. The menu was old school Italian, including the fresh homemade mozzarella, which In Vino is known for. Guests included old friends and new, from NY and LA, which was really fun. Kat McDonald, who owns Art + Farm wines and has been doing the wine for my dinners this whole year was in town from Napa Valley, which made things that much more special since she isn’t always able to join us. The night started with wine and charcuterie and shoe fittings from the fall and spring lines, followed by a sit down dinner that went way past midnight with dessert and friends coming and staying late. Rie Rasmussen

rie

Our friend Rie Rasmussen had an opening of her photographs and paintings at Electric Lady Studio last night. I loved the work she showed, sort of a female inspired Francis Bacon meets a fashionable Alice Neel, with a twist of George Grosz. Rie is a girl after my own heart; outspoken, fearless, multi hyphenated and unapologetically walking to the beat of her own drum. She is also a filmmaker and set to direct a remake of David Cronenberg’s first film “Shivers,” which should be phenomenal. I can’t wait. Below, one of the shoots we did with Rie for the October 2001 issue of Continue reading

FKA Twigs

My new obsession. London based FKA Twigs (“Formerly Known As”). Wow. This is off her second release, a four-track EP, which came out last month following a killer under the radar 2012 debut.
