What To Pack for a Road Trip

Sometimes the need to wonder as I wander (thanks Langston Hughes for that never ending genius phrase) is too strong and nothing fixes the urge more than a road trip! It has been suggested that Big Sur may be the place and since I have never been, I may just have to go asap. Traveling by car discourages packing light but I like to travel light regardless. Clothes are a given, as is a camera, a journal and a great book. Even when traveling in pairs I still need those last two items. Love this Joie dress, Avec brown leather sandals from Calypso, Ina Kent Ad LIB4 leather bag, Tom Ford sunglasses, BCBG fedora (of course), a standard composition book, which has been my favorite kind of journal since middle school, and a review copy of The Glitter and The Gold by Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan, which St. Martin’s press sent me ages ago and I still haven’t had time to read. Now is the time… Continue reading

An Oversimplification of Her Beauty

Can’t wait to see this! It’s playing in ONE theatre in LA that I could find, the Downtown Independent at 251 South Main Street, (213) 617-1033. And yet, this is a ‘film’ town. Allow me my cynicism, please for a moment because I know this film will wipe it away and make me believe again. The film is directed by Terence Nance and stars Alisa Becher, Jc Cain, Dexter Jones, and Namik Minter.

RIP Taylor Mead

flower thief taylor mead

Everytime someone amazing and creative dies the universe shifts a little. Taylor Mead died last week at age 88. He was an artist, a writer, an actor and a “bohemian,” (who also happened to come from a lot of money). I got introduced to him at Bard by my film professor Adolfas Mekas, who screened Ron Rice’s infamous beat film, The Flower Thief (1960) for us in our freshman year. If you are in NY, Anthology Film Archives screens all of these old amazing films, which can be otherwise hard to find. Next Thursday they are showing another one of our Bard professors’ films, Peggy Ahwesh’s The Deadman. Taylor Mead above and below. RIP Flower Thief. Continue reading

Love this track and video from Glass Candy. They (singer Ida No and producer Johnny Jewel) have been around Portland Oregon since 1996. Their summer tour unfortunately is mostly in Europe.
