Madonna. That’s all. There were some other cool ladies that stood out as well, you can check out the photos on WWD. My other favorites were Sarah Jessica Parker, Linda Fargo, Julie Macklowe, Kim Gordon (just for showing up, the dress wasn’t that interesting but she is KIM GORDON so she can wear whatever she wants), Anne Hathaway, Cara Delevingne and Anja Rubik nailed it and some of the other models made a sweet effort. Otherwise, everyone wore pretty and safe red carpet dresses we see the entire year. If some of these dresses actually showed up on more carpets throughout the year, it would be much more interesting all around but for last night, it was tame. I love that some of the old bands showed up, though the irony is through the roof. Christ Stein in his CBGB’s T shirt below. Levi’s has done a collaboration with Liberty London (*today is apparently London day everywhere!) Levi’s redid their iconic Trucker jacket (*full disclosure I wear mine compulsively) while Liberty London created exclusive prints inspired by 70s and 40s styles. Speaking of London… going through the archives, stumbled on this shoot from 2003, which I photographed for Russian Elle in the streets of London. Which streets, I can’t remember, but I do remember this was one of my favorite trips. Apologies in advance for the crappy scans, everything was shot on an old Rolleiflex camera and I haven’t gotten the negatives properly scanned so am futzing with the tear sheets. Vintage-inspired fashion jewelry line 1928 Jewelry Co. just signed a licensing deal with Downton Abbey, which will be good news for fans of the show and vintage jewelry alike. I have a never ending fixation on the old stuff, and of course and am a huge fan of the show. According to WWD, 1928 is where the show’s costume designer Caroline McCall gets a lot of their jewelry for the show itself. I have a lot of amazing moms in my life, including of course my very own, and for the past few years I’ve put together a Mother’s Day Box for my best friend who has two gorgeous daughters, who are also my goddaughters. The box, which can be a classic gift box or, what I like to do is throw it all in a really pretty storage box she can re-use, includes everything from wine to shoes to beauty products and books, chocolate and anything else I can think of that will make her smile. Moms are 24-hour miracle workers and every day is mother’s day but next Sunday, we can brag about it even more.
