Nikki Giovanni

Poet Nikki Giovanni edited the newly published anthology, “100 Best African American Poems,” which features poems from everyone including Langston Hughes and Tupac. I won’t pretend I read poetry all the time, in fact, it’s probably never but there is a certain poetry to a certain kind of narrative that Giovanni (and Hughes) both create which I love. Langston Hughes’ “I Wonder As I Wander” has long been one of my favorite books and eventhough it’s a non-fiction book about his travels it reads like poetry. I also love hearing the soothing voice of a good poet read their own work. It’s different then reading if off the page yourself. Ms. Giovanni is amazing and I’m hoping it will be her voice on the audio CD that’s included. I love the cover graphics as well.
