Nayland Blake

One of my old Bard MFA professors, artist Nayland Blake, has a new show FREE!LOVE!TOOL!BOX! opening today at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. For this show Nayland will, “create several spontaneous sculptures, using his life as a point of departure. Among works on view will be his installation Ruins of a Sensibility, c. 1972-2002, consisting of a specially designed D.J. booth stocked with his collection of over 3000 LP’s, a different selection of which will be played each day during the run of the exhibition.” The show is up through January 27, 2013. If you’ve ever wondered why I’m a stylist that doesn’t seem to act like one check out Nayland’s work and remember he was amongst those who I quietly learned from… Overwhelming conclusion: life is more interesting when you draw outside the lines.

New Boots, New Day Look

I got these booties from The Gap last week and have been living in them! They look great with pretty much anything… jeans, leggings and of course my go to, dresses. I’ve also been wearing this Diesel men’s watch they gave as editor’s gifts a while back at a dinner they hosted. Something about how lose it fits on my wrist, I wear it more as a bracelet than to actually tell time since I haven’t worn a watch since I was 14 (true story, though I am annoyingly on time as most of my friends will tell you). Love this Asos Nadine dress worn with a wool and cashmere blend trench coat from Burberry (!!)

Paris, 70 Years Ago, Giovanni Boldini

I really wanted to post this painting because it is so stunning it takes your breath away, you can almost taste the era and it comes with the most amazing story. Apparently the painting was found in an apartment in Paris that had been abandoned at the onset of World War II when the resident, one Mrs. de Florian, was forced to leave the city. Mrs. de Florian was the granddaughter of Marthe de Florian, “a beautiful French actress and socialite of the Belle Époque” who was also the painter Giovanni Boldini‘s muse. Oh, and I also discovered this really cool blog at the same time. More of Boldini’s paintings below. I am completely obsessed. Continue reading

The Four Seasons Spa, BioMeditation Therapy

The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills has a lot to celebrate this year. Aside from their 25th anniversary they have an array of tasty new dishes on their Culina menu and their spa is the only one in the country that does BioMeditation Therapy, which I got to try a few weeks ago. Jeannette von Johnsbach who does the hour long sessions learned from Russian healer Viktor Philippi himself. Now, I know there will be skeptics who will decry all this energy mumbo jumbo as me Continue reading

Geren Ford, Spring 2013

I basically live in Geren Ford year round and it’s not because they send me free clothes (though I really wish they would). I just love what designer Geren Lockhart does because she seems to guess what I want every season (plus she and I share a birthday, same day, same year, so I consider her a creative soul sister). Above is my favorite print from the new Spring 2013 collection, which she showed in LA a few weeks ago (I know, I am behind, I’ve been in NYC twice in the past month). More below of what you will be seeing me wearing around town next spring. Continue reading

Art for Sale on Yoox

The marriage of art & commerce is complete (ok fine, art and commerce have been married for as long as I can remember but this particular pairing is especially artsy & commercy). Damien Hirst is amongst those selling his art on fashion E commerce site Yoox (The New Yorker just did a great profile on them). With offerings ranging from his butterfly prints to sculptures and wallpaper.
