LA Store Openings

Melrose is hopping with a cluster of cool store openings kicking off Friday October 19th with a party to celebrate the opening of Foundry at 7995 Melrose Avenue (hosted by Alexa Chung), followed by this Saturday’s opening of the new Nars store at 8412 Melrose (Francois will be making an appearance for cocktails in the evening) and finally (HURRAH!) LA’s first Rag & Bone boutique is celebrating it’s local landing with a private party next Friday October 26th at 8533 Melrose Avenue, hosted by the poster boys of cool, Marcus WainWright and David Neville along with co-host, Bee Shaffer. They really should have made it a weekend long block party with bands and beer…

Glenn O’Brien, Style Guy

Five minutes in a room with me and you will soon hear me rhapsodize about GQ and their punk to politics editor in chief Jim Nelson. I love his aesthetic and approach to fashion and culture in general (plus he is an old DC born and bred punk rocker). That said, it is not surprising that their resident men’s style know it all is the one and only Glenn O’Brien who has every sartorialist this side of the ocean beat and schooled. This month a special stand-alone issue hits newsstands with the best of Glenn’s GQ “Style Guy” column and if it’s as good as the book Glenn wrote last year then I will be the first lady in line to see what the gents are up to. The issue is on newsstands through January.

Clos du Bois Rouge Cosmétique by Pixi

I can’t believe no one thought of this sooner! Make up and wine in one from Clos du Bois and Pixi who launches a cosmetics set this month, which includes a bottle of the new Clos du Bois Rouge blend that inspired the colors of the collecion. Along with the wine you get Rouge Water Tint for cheeks, Nail Rouge polish and Gloss Rouge for lips. Oh and the really great part (though how can it possibly get better?) 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Clos du Bois Rouge Cosmétique by Pixi will go to Step Up Women’s Network. Ladies, I think you nailed this one on all counts. Genius.

Sseko Designs Clutch

Obsessed with this inexpensive shoe and bag line out of Uganda, Sseko. Love this clutch from their White Arrow collection and the back story for the brand as well. They raise money to send women to university in Uganda through the sale and manufacture of these rad designs. Very cool.

Saint Etienne in LA

Speaking of rad tunes… Saint Etienne is playing the Fonda Theater in LA on November 3rd! I have loved this band for so many years I can not even count them. I am so excited to see them play! They are also in NY at Webster Hall October 26th if you’re on that other coast that week. Arcona Eye Dew

I love this Arcona eye cream I just started using. I think it came to me by way of the VPL show gift bags… It’s got a very soft, smooth texture but once it goes on your skin it tightens up a little, making it the perfect spackle as my beauty editor friend would say.
