Family of The Year, Hero

I have been hearing this song “Hero” on KCRW (I renewed my membership last week so feel no guilt at all for using them as a musical source) for the past few weeks, from Silverlake based band Family of The Year. The version above is older than the one they just released on their second album Loma Vista, which came out in July. An old photo of Brandon in his bedroom in Baltimore, 2005, above. Barry McGee Retrospective

Citizens of Humanity is sponsoring a mid career retrospective of Barry McGee‘s work at the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive’s (BAM/PFA) from August 24 through December 9, 2012. The show will be an overview of 23 years of work including never before seen large scale installations. Poliça at Levi’s Haus & Clos du Bois Wine at Bar Marmont

Last night we went to Levi’s Haus in West Hollywood to see Poliça (above, Drew Christopherson, Chris Bierden, Ben Ivascu, and Channy Leaneagh) play a live set for a cool little crowd including the adorable Ellen Page (see below). Levi’s has become quite the place for shows lately, bringing in everyone from M83 to Snoop Dogg. Before popping into Levi’s we stopped by Bar Marmont to sample the new Clos du Bois Rouge and eat some crepes and bump into old friends. Lana Del Ray, The New Face of Jaguar and H&M

I had an ongoing debate during this past Coachella with a musically inclined friend whose opinion I don’t disrespect and he had it out for Lana Del Ray. I of course was on the defensive about her because I really like her and especially her music and have been obsessed with her songs and videos from the get go. That said, I imagine her new role as the official face for brands like H&M (she is also doing the soundtrack for their next commercial) and now Jaguar (see above) will do nothing to help me the next time I need to defend the talented lady.
