Adam Yauch, RIP

Adam Yauch passed away yesterday after a three year battle with cancer. Adam was of course one of the Beastie Boys, a band I grew up with, the punk rock boys gone rap that created a sound all their own and went on to create so much more (videos, films, magazines and political movements). I didn’t know Adam personally but I love all the work he and the boys put out into the universe, aside from the obsession worthy work he continued to create he was also a native New Yorker and Bard graduate (class of ’86) which immediately makes him like family. Needless to say, the news broke my heart. He was only 47. Thank you for all you created. Adam in 1989, above is on the right. RIP MCA.

Any Excuse to Wear This Tuxedo Jacket Look

I know, I know, how many blazers does one woman need? I have no idea but I ask myself that every time I open my blazer closet. It’s true I have an entire closet in my office for tuxedo jackets and blazers. They range from vintage ones and knock offs from Forever 21 to my to-die-for favorites from Rag & Bone but every time I see a rad jacket I think “I need it!” LOVE this Cynthia Rowley flower print tuxedo beauty, with what else but shorts of course (J Crew) and heels (YSL) and I’m kind of obsessed with this Peter Lang choker. Clearly not a day look. Dolce Gabbana lace bag option below… Continue reading

Nicholas Kirkwood, New York Store

Nicholas Kirkwood, who just opened his first boutique in London a year ago, is opening the doors of his first boutique in NY’s Meatpacking District (807 Washington Street) this Friday and apparently has his sights set on LA next (rumor has it he’s already found a prime location so it’s only a matter of time… Yay!) The killer heels expert is not only juggling his own collections and store openings but also continues to revive Italian brand Pollini as their creative director, and has a slew of shoe collaborations coming up this year with designers including Erdem, Peter Pilotto, and Prabal Gurung.

Christa B. Allen Photo Shoot

I think it’s called the perfect storm when you have a gorgeous model (actress Christa Allen from ABC’s Revenge, which I am completely obsessed with) who is smart, fearless and willing to have fun and try anything, while the whole team has an amazing synergy. Some of the photos above and below are “risque” as they say but done with the idea that being sexy and beautiful comes from a Continue reading

Day Look, Sailor Stripes with a Splash of Color

I love contrasting prints and stripes and am dying over this Bottega Veneta bag with a striped belted dress by Wal G for Topshop, a J Brand denim jacket and Nicholas Kirkwood heels.

DWNTWN Music

Totally obsessed with DWNTWN and their track “See My Eyes” which is insanely difficult to find and listen to online at the moment though the track is out on iTunes in Europe and on May 7th in the US. Jamie Leffler and Robert Cepeda formed in 2010 and are LA-based. I love the Bruce Springsteen cover above too, their mix tape released last summer with originals (“See My Eyes”) and covers is below and equally obsession worthy. Ditto their cover of “Goodbye Horses.” Beyond… Continue reading

Blues by Kyky Handbags

Love this raffia clutch from BLUES by Kyky, designed by Yliana Yepez, who was one of the brand’s original founders over 20 years ago. Perfect for all the beach parties coming up this summer.

3 Shows You Need To See: Rineke Dijkstra, Karen Kilimnik & Tim Hetherington

There are three shows that I am dying to see but they involve a little travel and effort. Rineke Dijkstra has her first big Amereican retrospective up at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art through June which is when it will come to the Guggenheim in NY. I’m planning on being in SF this weekend so really excited to check it out and should plans go awry I can always see it in NY (or hell, maybe both…) In May Karen Kilimnik will have a retrospective at the Brandt Foundation Study Center in Greenwhich Connecticut featuring everything from drawings to paintings, photographs and illustrations. And in honor of the one year anniversary of his death, Tim Hetherington‘s work will be on display at the Yossi Milo gallery in NY through May 19th. Images from the artists below… Continue reading

Saint Etienne New Album

Saint Etienne, the French makers of great amazing, beyond-words-obsessive dance pop tracks (my all time favorite ‘We’re In The City’ is below…) is releasing their first album of new material since 2005’s Tales From Turnpike House this year. The first track, ‘Tonight” was released back in March. Continue reading

Sunday Evening Date Look, Flat Boots Not Required

I know they always say guys don’t like fussy outfits but I don’t see how a fringed dress with a belt is fussy… Right? A Haute Hippie fringed silk mini dress with a Mulberry braided belt, a vintage army jacket, and McQueen heels. Ok, fine, the heels look a little high maintenance but I know there are men who appreciate that and if a man doesn’t love sky high heels, well, I have no words…
