The Farley Project

My friend Elissa Kravetz recently launched The Farley Project an anti-bullying initiative which is the topic of the day with everyone from Christina Aguilera to Lady Gaga promoting their own ‘accept & love everyone as they are’ causes, which there can never be enough of. Kids of all ages need all the support they can get to be reminded that there is always light at the end of the tunnel and while adults themselves may sometimes turn out to be bullies in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life it’s good to know someone out there is listening and paying attention. Elissa held her Continue reading

Nite Jewel, One Second of Love

One Second Of Love by Nite Jewel

We need a little music for the weekend. LA based Ramona Gonzalez‘s voice reminds me a little of Alison Moyet from YAZ. Ramona has been recording as Nite Jewel since 2008 and her new album will be released in March. In the meantime we have One Second Of Love… for the weekend. xox

Band of Outsiders Pre Fall 2012

The usual cute boy girl stuff we love from Band of Outsiders Pre fall 2012. I went to their annual holiday sample sale / taco truck fiesta last week and blame them completely for my new addiction to the veggie burrito from the truck on Beachwood and Santa Monica. Damn you taco truck for being so good. The samples for sale and boys in attendance that night were cute too…

The Fashion Pictures, St.Petersburg with Deborah Turbeville

This started out as a post on Arcana Books , which has one of the best collections of art, fashion and photography books on the West Coast and an obvious choice for gift shopping but then it turned into a post on Deborah Turbeville‘s recently published book The Fashion Pictures (which came out in October) after I saw they had it on their shelves. For almost three years I styled all of Deborah‘s shoots for L’Uomo Vogue, Russian Vogue and Spoon, while I was fashion director of the last two titles. We even did a shoot once for Tina Brown’s short lived magazine Talk with Charlotte Gainsbourg. But mostly we shot in St.Petersburg Russia which was Deborah’s favorite place to work and this book includes images from some of our shoots (I actually didn’t know that until I looked just now… life is full of surprises!) Above is a shot from one of our fashion stories that Continue reading

Evening Look, Holiday Party, Not Overdressing…

I am a dress ADDICT. I live in dresses of every kind for any occasion but I also love the look of a good pant or leggings with a silk chiffon blouse or tuxedo jacket for holiday parties. And this type of look will easily go from day to night, all you have to do is switch out the heels and bag with something shiny like a Maison du Posh python clutch and Guiseppe Zanotti embellished heels.

Pretty Much Everything

This month Taschen is releasing Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s new photography book, Pretty Much Everything ($700, who said books are cheap gifts? Now that is a freakin’ cool holiday gift for someone you love!) Looking through it is like remembering all of your favorite shoots from the last fifteen years. There is one of Kate Moss in the woods they did for French Vogue that I absolutely adore. And of course this insanely beautiful shot of Alexander McQueen, bless and rest his soul. More favorites of Kate Moss below… Continue reading

Dana Davis Shoes

A friend recently emailed me about this great shoe line created by Dana Davis that’s supposed to be better for your feet, especially if you have back or foot problems. Ten years ago while fashion editing in Europe and running my feet ragged wearing heels, being stressed over crazy co-workers, carrying bags full of heavy lookbooks, magazines and samples for shoots, sitting through countless hours of bad benches during show season and stiff airplane rides all over the world my back broke. No, seriously, it broke, not metaphorically, but literally. And I would NEVER complain about any of the other aforementioned stuff, all of that was fun except the broken back (and maybe the crazy co-workers but that’s just life and an occupational hazard in our business). I had had back troubles Continue reading

Tis The Season for Bracelets, Baubles & Jewels (On Heels!)

More gifts to crave… Wendy Nichol’s black shearling cuff, Guiseppe Zanotti Design Swarovski crystal mesh bracelet, a Mulberry rose gold bracelet, and the Manolo Blahnik Swan pump. Yes, Swan as in Bella Swan as in Twilight saga swan. Yeah, I’d marry a vampire too for heels like that.
