Kelly Reemtsen

This weekend’s Platform LA Art Fair was a huge success. There was a ton of beautiful work there, definitely not enough to fit into a blog but I got kind of obsessed with this one painting from Kelly Reemtsen, there was something familiar about it and then I realized I had blogged about her last year. She had a show at David Klein gallery over the summer (that’s whose booth I found her work in at the art fair too) and apparently she has another show coming up later this month at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. I love the contrasting energy in her work, there is a melancholy joy that sticks in the paintings. Platform LA closes today so if you have time to swing by I would… it’s inside the LA Mart building on the corner of Broadway and Washington downtown. Continue reading

Givenchy Spring Summer 2012

Such a beautiful collection from the hottest designer around (and I don’t mean just his skills with the fine cut of a dress… Riccardo Tisci is just hot all around). Love the shapes and layers and of course the sublime color palette at Givenchy. And I love all the models in their 30’s on the runway, lots of hot moms well into their 30’s. Continue reading

Taryn in A Killer Kathy Kemp Trench

I love this look. Sexy and chic, Kathy Kemp‘s trench coat is timeless and Taryn has the legs to pull it off. A BB Dakota striped button down shirt with vintage cut offs and Brian Atwood heels for the Rage event on Friday night where we saw The Black Keys play for the launch of the video game.

Robert Rauschenberg Photographs 1949-1962

DAP just published a stunning book of photographs by Robert Rauschenberg that he shot from 1949 to 1962 of all of the people he was hanging around with which just happens to include the likes of Jasper Johns and Merce Cunningham as well as a slew of other gems from the eye of one of the world’s greatest artists. Rauschenberg also has a foundation for artists that helps them in Continue reading

The Beauty Scalp Balance, Ona and Prive

I got asked to try the new Beauty Scalp Balance treatment at Ona Spa and Privé Salon which I happily skipped off to yesterday. My aesthetician Angelica started off by massaging my hands, feet and shoulders, all the while coming back to my tired head to revive me with rejuvenating scalp oils created by Privé Salon’s Carla Gentile, who has almost 30 years in the hair industry. Made with antioxidants moringa, acai, and pomegranate in a base of Jojoba oil, Continue reading

Pacific Standard Time, LA’s Art Filled Weekend

I’m obsessed with this David Hockney painting. Lots going on in LA’s art world this weekend. Tonight was the opening of Under The Big Black Sun: California Art 1974-1981 at Geffen Contemporary MOCA downtown with Henry Rollins spinning tunes (I am also hoping Henry will be on the Punk Art panel I am trying to pull together for the MOCA Contemporaries but we shall see… Fingers crossed for Dead Kennedys, X, the editor in chief of Thrasher and Pushead as well, that’s my dream list for the panel…) The show coincides with Pacific Standard Time at the Getty as well as a ton of other left coast related art retrospectives going on around LA. This weekend also marks the start of LA’s first major contemporary art fair, Art Platform which is where I’ll be manning the Contemporaries table from 11am-4pm tomorrow if you want to come by, say hello and join MOCA.

Balmain Spring Summer 2011

I guess when your archives are pure gold it can’t hurt to dig through them a little… Love the first Balmain collection from Oliver Rousteing. You kind of can’t go wrong with the tough sexy chic that’s dominated Balmain for seasons now. Totally hot. Continue reading

Lovely People Boots

Love these boots from Lovely People hitting stores next month. They make great inexpensive heels and boots and these are perfect for Fall if you don’t want to (or can’t) spend upwards of $600 on shoes. These ones will be available in select boutiques early October as well as online.

Blood Orange, Sutphin Boulevard

Blood Orange – Sutphin Boulevard by HowToMakeItInAmerica

Great track (and debut single) off of “Coastal Grooves,” Texas born, British raised and now NYC-based Dev Hynes‘ new project as Blood Orange. Hynes has written for the likes of Florence and the Machine (where he was an original band member) and The Chemical Brothers in the past. His last project was Lightspeed Champion under which he released two albums to lots of critical success but no commercial kudos. Let’s hope that changes with this album because there is lots to love here.
