Giselle Clutch

I have an obsession with Helena De Natalio‘s clutches that has been non-stop since I stumbled on her at Project in Vegas in 2008 (I was there while working for WWD…) The one above is the original Giselle clutch which I adore but she also did a mini in this rad mint color that I am dying over….

MOCA & Levi’s Film Workshop

I took a tour of the Levi’s Film Workshop Collaborative Film Projects at the downtown MOCA space recently and was blown away by the facilities they have available for FREE to the public during the “Art in the Streets” retrospective. You can do everything from edit your film on Final Cut pro to transferring your old Super 8 films onto DVD with the help of trained staff that can show you how to work stuff if you don’t already know. The workshop includes collaborations with artists from the show as well as educational workshops with special guests from the worlds of street art, skateboarding, food and music that cover everything from found footage and direct animation to Continue reading

Tabloid

“Sometimes you tell a lie long enough and you start to believe it,” says Joyce McKinney in the first part of the documentary she is the subject of which opens this week on July 14th. It’s hard to tell whom this really applies to in Errol Morris‘s new film “Tabloid” which focuses on Ms. McKinney who was accused of kidnapping an ex-boyfriend while he was on a Mormon mission in England in the 1970’s. The story became tabloid fodder for years and her personal life was gutted and maligned in a way we have become sadly used to in the world we live in now. I have never had this fascination with other people’s personal lives so am still shocked that tabloid journalism isn’t Continue reading

The Ballad of Sexual Dependency

I friend of mine gave me Nan Goldin’s photo book, “The Ballad of Sexual Dependency” during our Sophmore year at Bard and it has stayed one of my favorite books for all the obvious reasons. In retrospect I think I only now realize how much it has influenced my aesthetic over the years. It summarized visually what so many of us felt or dealt with emotionally. I love Nan… The whole series is being shown now through October 16th at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Presented in its original 35mm slide-show format, it’s part of the exhibition “Exposed: Voyeurism, Surveillance, and the Camera Since 1870”. So worth a day trip out there…

Washed Out, Within and Without

Washed Out – Amor Fati by subpop

Washed Out is the name 28 year-old Atlanta-based songwriter and producer Ernest Greene goes by and his debut album “Within and Without” comes out today on SubPop in the US and Weird World (Domino) internationally. It is full of melodic synth pop gems to make you long for your first love… and relieved it didn’t work out…

David Mushegain at Colette

Speaking of Colette in Paris, David Mushegain just had an opening of his photography at the boutique on July 4th. The shot above kind of reminds me of the one below I took in Vegas last summer while having a weekend with the girls. It is by no means as fabulous (or nice…) as David’s but I’m still obsessed with it. Love David’s work! It will be up through August 27th so if you happen to be there for couture shows or something equally fun, I am jealous and will live through you.

Kenzo’s New Creative Directors

LVMH has hired Opening Ceremony‘s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim as the new creative directors of Kenzo. Since launching in 2002 OC has exploded and become sort of the Colette of the West Coast, collaborating with all kinds of fashion forward folk including Rodarte and Maison Martin Margiela. Even Chloe Sevigny signed on to do several collections for them over the past couple years. It’s a pretty smart pairing, I can’t wait to see what they do with Kenzo. Their first collection will show in Paris this October for Spring 2012. A shot from the Fall 2011 Opening Ceremony lookbook above.

John Bartlett & Tiny Tim

One of my all time favorite designers, John Bartlett just did a “Tiny Tim Collection” of tees and hoodies for men, women, and kids that launched this week at his new online store. 10% of all profits from the sale of these items goes to the Tiny Tim rescue fund, which helps raise money for independent rescue groups who are pulling and saving animals from our nation’s kill shelters.
