Friday evening MOCA Contemporaries hosted a screening of Miranda July‘s new film “The Future” which I saw and loved at Sundance. Since I was one of the organizers of the event I went over to say hello to Miranda and ask her about the video diaries she used to do fifteen years ago. I also wanted to tell her I was one of the filmmakers she had included in one of them and that I had searched my entire NYC apartment and still could not find that VHS so maybe, somewhere in her archives she had it? Lo and behold, not only did she remember it but she got so excited that she actually said to an old friend standing beside her, “this is Hellin Kay who made “EVERY WOMAN…was once a little girl with…DREAMS”. I died. Apparently the film had not only made a good enough impression to be included on the compilation but the title had also become a phrase Miranda and her friend had repeated throughout the years. Since moving into my new place a few months ago I have become OBSESSED with home decor. It’s not really my specialty but I am now finding myself constantly eyeing pillows, throws and vintage trunks. Hence, Restoration Hardware has become my fantasy world where I live amongst large overstuffed couches and pillows surrounded by vintage coffee tables and etchings, while smelling the fresh flowers above which I can not even describe the smell of other than HEAVEN. I am having a moment with the color orange or mandarin or whatever you prefer. All I know is it is shocking me how much I am obsessed with this shade (so much that I am eyeing throw pillows for my home in that color). It was hard enough to stop wearing all back in LA (I proudly sport the likes of Kelly Green and magenta on a regular basis for several years now) so admitting that I have an orange crush was even harder… I am in love with these Jason Wu shoes he did for Resort 2012.
Even though Elizaveta was born in NYC she was raised in Russia which may explain why the amazing singer/songwriter sounds a tad like Regina Spektor (another fellow Russian taking over the world one song at a time). Elizaveta is releasing her first album this summer on Universal Republic. She sounds amazing live which I thankfully got to experience last night…
This Sunday LAMA is hosting an art & design auction with a lot of great work for sale including the gorgeous David Hockney print above and the Man Ray vintage print below as well as a rare Robert Rauschenberg from 1958 and an Alexander Calder painting.
