A Coachella Passover

I went straight from Coachella Monday night to Passover dinner at my best friend’s house. These are my god-daughters who are very clearly in the spirit of it… Happy Passover/Easter to all!

Happy Earth Day!…. Alternative Apparel Store Opening

I love the ethos behind Greg Alterman’s Alternative Apparel line which he started in 1995. It goes hand in hand with being a responsible consumer not only in the retail sense but also in the worldly, earthly sense. Last night they had the official celebration for their first US flagship store which they appropriately opened up in Venice. The decor of the store fits right in with their reduce, reuse, recycle mentality and makes for a great shabby chic boutique experience. I am obsessed with their vintage soft cottons and simple easy tops and shirts, and my favorite, the pinstriped guy’s blazer (which they didn’t have in a size small for me at the store yesterday but have available online… YAY!) They held a small luncheon for friends and press during the day and in the evening a little Continue reading

RIP, Tim Hetherington

Yesterday the world lost a great heart and great talent. British journalist and filmmaker Tim Hetherington was shot and killed in the Libyan city of Misrata while doing what he did best, keeping us informed and reminding us of where the rest of the world is. I saw his Oscar nominated film Restrepo that he did with Sebastian Junger a few months ago and was blown away by it. There are not a lot of films made like that and it reminded me of a whole other side to life that I thankfully have never really dealt with. After the screening Tim and Sebastian answered questions in a quiet thoughtful manner. When I asked if he felt journalists become addicted to being in the trenches amidst the war process as much as the soldiers seem to, his answer veered towards yes. There was a quiet truthful energy in the room throughout the night, and the knowledge that you were sitting amidst several great men and women, those that served in a myriad of ways, Tim being one of them. May he rest in peace, his work and spirit will outlive all of us. That’s Tim above on the right with a soldier in Afghanistan…

Rodial Snake Serum Line

Sticking to the theme that beauty products can ultimately save the world (I do truly believe that, imagine if everyone felt great about who they are and loved themselves enough to love everyone else around them….) New for spring, Rodial has launched a line of snake serum products including the Snake Mask and Snake Pen, which I have been rotating the past few weeks and kind of obsessing over. Each product contains Continue reading

Alexander Wang Fall 2011

I think a love of art definitely enhances ones love for shoes. Or maybe it’s the other way around? Either way, I love these Alexander Wang high heeled loafers for Fall 2011. Amazing color as well.

Nina Bovasso

My old friend and fellow Bard MFA alum Nina Bovasso has a new show of works on paper opening in NYC this month. The series is titled “What’s Your Bubble?” and features Nina’s classic dense and abstract acrylic and ink drawings. I’ve always been a big fan of her work. I miss the dialogue with other artists that we take for granted while smack in the middle of art school. Mulherin Pollard Projects, April 27 thru May 22, 2011. Opening reception will be held Friday May 6, 6-8pm.

Your Sister’s Canary

Good and Alone by Your Sister’s Canary

Kind of obsessed with this fresh threesome out of NYC, Your Sister’s Canary. From what I can tell Rob Natale, Josh Edsall and Jordan Chiolis have been around for a couple of years and are unsigned.
