The Pains of Being Pure At Heart

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are releasing their sophomore album Belong in March 2011 and in the meantime the single “Heart in Your Heartbreak”, above, is out on December 14, 2010. I loved their self titled debut release when it came out in February of 2009. The tracks have a great post-80’s new wave pop melancholic sound that always makes me happy. They release a slow trickle of singles in between albums including the one below which came out in June 2010.

Google Fashion

Google is venturing into fashion with a new Web site and virtual designer boutiques. I’m not really clear on how this will differ from just searching for an item on Google’s engine and being directed to the online retailer that carries it since you won’t actually be able to purchase anything directly on the site itself but everyone seems to be buzzing about it and I am curious to see it. The site is called Boutiques.com and simulates just that, with a personalized shopping experience where customers can set up their own virtual boutique. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker the designers that have been invited to set up their own stores on the site include Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Cynthia Rowley, Marchesa and Erin Fetherston. The site launches this Wednesday and will use image-recognition technology that Google acquired when it bought Like.com earlier this year. Yeah, I’m not tech savvy enough yet to get it either and already overwhelmed with all the online options available but will happily join the rally in anticipation of the surprise…

Richard Branson’s Rock The Kasbah Charity Event

Last Thursday Richard Branson and his mom Eve held their 4th annual charity event Rock The Kasbah for Virgin Unite and The Eve Branson Foundation in downtown Los Angeles. The crowd was of course amazing including my favorite talented lady Taryn Manning, and the money raised went to Virgin Unite, Branson’s organization that brings together entrepreneurs, philanthropists and leaders from around the world to help in social and environmental causes. It’s pretty fantastic what they do. I loved hearing Sir Branson’s mom Eve speak. So inspirational. Awesome fun night (one of the auction items was for “The Glee Experience” on the set of the show with the cast…) and all for a really great cause. Robin Thicke and Common performed. Sadly we missed Common’s performance thanks to traffic but Robin Thicke was phenomenal and so hot. Love it.

Swarovski

Swarovski continues to expand, launching both sunglasses and men’s in late January of 2011 when the sparkly pink things above that I’m obsessed with will hit stores. Swarovski has lots of other new stuff going on including the opening of their new cafe inside the Soho NYC store next week (the store has been open since June 2009). Café Kristall, Kurt Gutenbrunner’s Swarovski Restaurant will open it’s doors full time on November 15 where their Michelin-starred chef has concocted some great dishes including Monkfish medallions with polenta and port wine figs and spicy egg sandwiches with cornichones and paprika. Can’t wait! Café Kristall, 499 Broadway, 212-274-1500

LovelyPeople Shoes

I love when a brand does something chic, sexy and within a price range that most people can afford (ok, most people I know anyway…) When you work in fashion for too long spending $900 or more on shoes becomes the norm. Don’t judge. Most people would love to afford that luxury, myself included, regardless of what they say. So it’s nice every once in a while to find shoes that can reach a wider audience while maintaining a high fashion sensibility. I saw this cute LovelyPeople Amanda shoe yesterday at a Spring Summer 2011 preview so it won’t be available in stores or online for a few more months but it comes in black, white and taupe (pictured) and will retail for $140.

Highball Glasses from Heaven & Bicycles Galore

No one really needs another excuse to drink in this town but I can’t help but want to raise my glass to have another in one of these insanely cool 2 Bicycle Etched Highball Glasses by Phoenix Fire Studios. Apparently some incredibly talented graphic design graduate mom made these in South Carolina and she has a whole array of other great mugs and glasses to choose from. I am clearly having a bicycle moment because this little shabby leather wallet below drew me in as well. So chic. I want the man I date to have one of these to impress me with his understated effortless taste…
