Fistful of Mercy

Fistful Of Mercy by FistfulOfMercy

I met Joe Arthur at a friend’s apartment in New York City years ago when he was just starting out. He was cute and incredibly talented. He along with LA-based Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison recently joined forces to form the melodic, melancholy and generally awesome Fistful of Mercy. The new album is out in stores today October 5th and the self titled track from the album is above. They’re playing at Vintage Vinyl in New Jersey tonight if you happen to be around.

Bulgari Beauty

I get hooked on products easily, especially when they come from a brand I happen to like already. Bulgari, whose bags I’ve been obsessed with lately, is adding to their line of luxury skin care with a new group of antioxidant hydrating products called Source Defense including this serum which promises to do the usual array of nature defying acts while protecting skin from nature itself. I haven’t tried this particular serum yet and don’t usually believe half of what I read but I want to so badly. I love a good bottle of spackle. Plus the design of the bottle is gorgeous.

Yves Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2011

That red dress is beyond amazing. Obsessed is not even the word. I need it. I love the classic romanticism associated with Yves Saint Laurent. The whole brand always reminds me of a time in fashion I wish I had seen with my own eyes when it first began. But since I can’t Stefano Pilati’s version is a pretty fantastic substitute.

Maripol

Maripol styled Madonna’s legendary Like A Virgin album cover and created an entire aesthetic and style that she never quite benefited from. She went to the legendary Beaux Arts school in Paris before coming to NYC to change the world of fashion, music and style. Maripol did her first rubber jewelery collection in 1978 while an Art Director for Fiorucci and only a few years later put those rubber barcelets on Madonna along with the crosses and other jewelry that defined Madonna’s look for so many years. She is also a well known photographer and filmmaker. Check out her book of polaroids from the 70’s and 80’s called Maripolarama published by Powerhouse books. And if you haven’t seen the legendary documentary film Downtown 81 that Maripol produced and Edo Bertoglio directed (Glenn O’brien wrote it) put that on your to do list ASAP. Her new book of drawings and photography, Little Red Riding Hood came out on September 30th.

James Blake “I Only Know (What I Know Now)”

james blake – I Only Know What I Know Now by andresO

I had an amazing film professor at Bard named Peggy Ahwesh. She was the first to really teach me the dialect of art. From Peggy I learned about the Fluxus movement and the language of experimental sound. James Blake, a producer out of London, paints with sound and his track “I Only Know (What I Know Now)” was released today on R&S Records.

Gregory Parkinson’s CFDA Nomination

I love Gregory Parkinson’s colorful print based collections so was really excited to learn that the my L.A.-based, English-born designer friend was among the ten finalists nominated by the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund for their seventh annual award. Next week Frederic Fekkai will host a fashion show featuring several looks by each Finalist, which will take place at Chateau Marmont in Los Angles. The winner will be announced on November 15th at a gala dinner in New York City. Gregory’s dress shot for the cover of WWD back in 2008, above and his Spring Summer 2011 collection presented in New York a few weeks ago, below.

Givenchy Spring Summer 2011

Riccardo Tisci can seem to do no wrong at Givenchy. No matter how hard the edges the clothes always maintain their sexy feminine vibe. Love all the chiffon layers and ruffles. Obsessed.
