Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring Summer 2011

Almost twelve years ago while I was still an assistant to Polly Mellen I used to go to Rice for those vegetarian meatballs religiously on weekends when I wasn’t working. That was when I accidentally stumbled on Maria Cornejo’s Mott Street boutique which was next door at the time. I bought a gorgeous simple red cotton dress that reminded me of Fellini’s 8 1/2. I wore that dress for years and have been obsessed with Ms. Cornejo’s line Zero for just as long. Today at the Hosfelt Gallery she showed her ever evolving array of beautifully constructed dresses with the most perfect pleats, draping and tailoring. I was mesmerized watching the show which I always am. The beige dresses at the end were stunning as were the subtle prints throughout. Lots of silks, overlapping layers and pitch perfect neutral tones. Ms. Cornejo’s first West Coast boutique just opened up a few weeks ago at 8408 Melrose Place in West Hollywood.

Jenny Packham Spring Summer 2011

Jenny Packham had some nice gowns, I loved the chain-link detailing on a few of them. Though she is already a red carpet regular I’m sensing a big LA push for Jenny and am going to venture a guess that a West Hollywood store will be forthcoming sometime in the next couple of years. Today was her first time showing in New York away from her native London.

Rebecca Taylor Spring Summer 2011

Frilly, silky, fun and fab. My favorite part of the Spring collections are always the flower prints and trench coats if truth be told and Rebecca Taylor’s collection had all of the above. Sometimes it’s just good to be a girl and enjoy the benefits of being frivolously in love with uncomplicated cute clothes. I am obsessed with the pleated dress. There have been pleats in a few collections so far which makes me sublimely happy as well. I love a full length or mid calf skirt or dress with pleats. The one thing I was kind of taken aback by was how insanely skinny some of the girls were especially up close. This was not a natural teenage underage still growing kind of skinny, this was skin and bones protruding skinny. It was the one thing that distracted me from the great clothes.

Erin Fetherston Spring Summer 2011

Loved everything at Erin Fetherston. Am obsessed with her proper girly aesthetic. It was nice to walk into a calm serene environment on the second floor at Milk versus the madness on the eigth floor. God help us when they sign up even more designers for that venue next season. The birds were literally chirping, champagne was flowing and the clothes came down the runway to match. I would wear everything if I could and am so excited to play next season!

Tess Giberson Spring Summer 2011

Tess Giberson is a persistent philosopher at heart. She and I became friends while working together many years ago at Calvin Klein in the men’s Collection design department. She always had a flavor for minimal design and asymmetrical cuts and I have always loved her creations as well as her artists’ aesthetic and cerebral approach. I haven’t seen her in a long time so it was really fun to pop by her presentation in Chelsea yesterday. The collection was small and focused, mostly black and white with just a couple pops of color in the Rothko tradition. Beautifully cut, quiet and well thought out much like Tess her self.

VPL Spring Summer 2011

Gorgeous clothes from one of my favorite designers Victoria Bartlett. As Always VPL was filled with sexy separates, great structured cuts, beautiful draping and layering all painted with a soft neutral color palette. And of course lots of familiar big names on the runway and off. I love seeing Kim Gordon at shows…

Courtney Love at Don Hills

It is virtually impossible to see every fashion week show and presentation, attend every party and event, blog, eat, drink, sleep, shower and live to tell about it. Especially when the Internet refuses to work in my apartment. So I haven’t been able to blog as frequently as I would have liked but admittedly have also been having some incredibly long, very late and fun nights. Last night we ended up at a Don Hills for Courtney Love’s performance. The club was recently bought up by Nur Khan and Paul Sevigny and given the slightest touch up. Aside from the bathrooms being redone and made more pleasant for us old punk rockers who want to revel in the crusty old days but not necessarily relive them, the venue seems relatively intact and reminded me of being fifteen again in the clubs of Baltimore and DC, listening to Positive Force, Government Issue and Bad Brains. Having Ms. Love play was genius and could not have made for a better re-introduction to the place.

Jill Stuart Spring Summer 2011

Loved this collection of super sweet, girly fun dresses. Jill Stuart has a knack for making a girl want to be a girl. Easy fabrics, great prints and pleats with lots of separates to mix and match. Here’s to playing dress up in the Spring. Two of my favorite girls were at the show as well… Taryn Manning and Jessica Szohr, below.

Loved the venue as well, am really starting to get into it at Lincoln Center though getting there is such a huge trek for me compared to the ease of hopping on my beloved F train to go four stops from home to Braynt Park. Otherwise, it’s pretty great to have a new environment and something to explore.

Charlotte Ronson Spring Summer 2011

Speaking of high school, Charlotte Ronson’s show was it’s usual fun fab parade of names and faces and I loved a lot of the flower print and plaid pieces she showed. I like to mix and match prints, plaids, polka dots and stripes myself so am always excited to see that on runways.
