Aliona Doletskaya, my old boss at Russian Vogue is known for being ballsy and doing the unexpected. While she may not have been the easiest to work for (no great boss ever is) I always admired her incredible talent and ability to create amazing work. Today it was announced that she has resigned as Editor in Chief of Russian Vogue which to a lot of fashionistas will be hard to understand. But I get it. She has spent thirteen amazing years living out a dream, building a brand and creating some unforgettable content. But when you are that high at the top of your game… well, its not boredom per-se, but a sense of “what is next?”
I can relate. And I admire and respect without question her ballsy and unexpected move. How cool when a woman knows exactly who she is and is unafraid to move on. To take a risk and find out what is next.
In a memo notifying staffers, Conde Nast International president Jonathan Newhouse wrote: “Some time ago, Aliona Doletskaya told me that she would like to leave the Vogue Russia editor-in-chief’s post, which she has occupied for almost 13 years, and start a new life, probably to write a book or try her hand in a new field. As Russia—as well as the rest of the world—was still going through economically hard times, I asked Aliona to wait for a better time to do this. Now, it’s obvious that we are coming out of the crisis, thus I don’t want to interfere with Aliona’s plans anymore. I accept her decision to leave the magazine with great sorrow.”
