Nicholas K Spring 2015

nich 19

It was a good first day of fashion week. Maybe the flock has not only read but heeded Veronique Hyland’s hysterical and all too true advice but there were less cell phones waving in the air during the five shows I saw yesterday. One of my favorites was in the dreaded 9am slot but worth the effort. Nicholas K showed a great collection of layered flowy fabrics for spring in every shade of my favorite sand brown olive army minty green imaginable with all the brass and leather hardware a girl could want to create that shabby chic perfection I die for. And lace up stiletto heels in the same gorgeous colors. Love it. More below. Continue reading

Summer Road Trip Diary

IMG_5509

August 23rd I left LA for a two week drive back home to NY through the south. I spent my first night in Tucson Arizona followed by Marfa & Austin Texas, Jackson Mississippi, Atlanta Georgia and finally back up to NY a few days earlier than planned because of work (sorry Nashville, another time). I met so many amazing people, spent hours driving by myself and never feeling alone while listening to music and local radio, which was one of the most revealing things about each state I drove through. In eight days I traveled through fifteen states and spent the night in six of them, sometimes with old friends, sometimes in hotels, and one night in a beautiful safari tent. I listened to Continue reading

Minnetonka Hat

Fell head over heels for this great fold up hat from Minnetonka a girlfriend of mine was wearing by the pool on Sunday. I tried it on and fell in love. Plus it folds up easily in your bag. Brilliant. Continue reading

Day One & Two, LA to NY Road Trip

photo-85

I have been planning on doing this road trip for a while and since August is a sleepy month there is no time like the present to get on the road. My first major stop was in Marfa Texas for a heavenly night in a safari tent at the El Cosmico hotel. On the way to Marfa I stopped at Irma’s Restaurant in Deming New Mexico where I had amazing enchiladas and guacamole for breakfast. I highly recommend this place if you’re driving through. It’s just off the 10 East and worth a stop. My road trip is all about food and locals so once I got to Marfa I had dinner at Cochineal with one of the town’s best fixtures who it turned out was friends with my friends in LA. They suggested I look up Continue reading

Ocean Pearl Spa, Carlsbad

photo-89

I started my cross country trek with a day at Ocean Pearl Spa at the Sheraton Resort in Carlsbad where Katie gave me the ‘Vitality of the Glaciers’ facial, which was just added to their menu of treatments. Valmont is a brand out of Switzerland and only a few spas in the US have their products, which use salmon roe DNA in their creams for a collagen lift the natural way. The Swiss don’t believe in steam or extractions so it was a quiet yet effective hour long facial using the ‘butterfly’ massage technique. I am test driving the products during my road trip, using the Continue reading

LA Food & Wine

photo-82

So much good food, so little room. The 4th LA Food & Wine Festival took place last weekend in downtown LA where we ate and drank too much. I went Thursday night (Common performed Saturday night, which I missed because I was already on my road trip, see above) and loved all the chefs especially Elia Aboumrad from Gorge who made chicken liver pate and rabbit rillette with house pickled baby trumpet royale mushrooms. Also there was Whispering Angel rose for miles. Chef Graham Elliot made fantastic Peruvian ceviche with miso-raisin puree, which I had Craig Becker from Somerston pair with one of his perfect wines. Tattoos and rose became the theme of the night, which I think is a perfect pairing as well. More below. Continue reading
