A while back I got a tweet from the Brooklyn based band Stargroves with their track “Westfjords,” featuring vocals by native New Yorker Abigail Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine,” Abigail, I don’t know if we can ever stop calling you that because the film was so awesome and timeless). Tim Sutton’s film “Memphis,” starring Willis Earl Beal, which I saw and loved at Sundance this January, opens September 5th. Stephen Shore has a new show opening at 303 Gallery in September. I can’t ever get enough of his work, the original everything as far as color photography goes. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t dropped his photo class (three semesters in a row) while I was at Bard but being a film major was expensive enough without adding photo classes before the advent of digital. I still feel like I learned a lot from him. Incredible artist. The show opens September 11th through November 1st, 2014.

Don’t even pretend. I know you want to see Fifty Shades of Grey on the big screen as much as I do, if just for the curiosity of how the casting chemistry plays out. I really like Dakota Johnson and was disappointed when Ben and Kate was cancelled last year. She’s sweet, funny and has a lot of charm onscreen. I can’t find any episodes of Ben and Kate on Hulu anymore and wonder if they took them down in anticipation of the release so we wouldn’t see her as the funny girl she is and take her more seriously as the innocent girl from Fifty Shades, which I’m sure she will play equally well. Beauty and shoe addicts rejoice. Christian Louboutin has launched a line of nail lacquer, which hits the eight floor of Saks Fifth Avenue and all US Louboutin boutiques today. One of the best collaborations of the year from two of my favorite artists. Royksopp and Robyn premiered their video for “Do It Again” today. The track is sublime and the video is intense and fantastic. Reminds me a little of Eve Sussman’s The Rape of the Sabine Women film she did in 2007.
