It’s Summertime. Almost.

There is definitely something beautiful about coming out of a cold long winter. Ok, fine, I was in LA during the vortex and for most of the snow storms but I was still here this winter and it was brutal. Sorry for bailing when it was coldest but I am a lightweight in my old age. I had to put away most of my dresses that I live in when I’m in LA but the time has come to shake out those silk florals and cotton stripes. Guys, it’s summer time. Beach time. Friday early cocktail time. It’s officially dress time. Madewell’s Blanca dress in stripe, Calypso Bambina crinkle silk dress, Tory Burch Esmerelda floral print silk crepe dress, and Fossil’s Bridgette side gusset knit dress above. More below. Flush Cousins & Cheap Shoes

burberry bootsdolce gabbana wedge

I really want a new pair of Burberry boots or Dolce wedges but I have to be a grown up for now. Plus, if you’ve seen my shoe closet I can make absolutely no argument for the need of new shoes. That aside, fashion, like good food, isn’t about what we need but what we want. Thanks to the completely different nature of the fashion business over the last decade, cheap shoes are no longer “cheap shoes.” Often they feel and look like their expensive flush cousins (cushioned soles included). Below are some killer summer options under $100 and even a few under $50. Continue reading

Nikki Deloach in Gomez Gracia

Nikki in Gomez Garcia at prism 2014

Nikki Deloach wore this Gomez Gracia gown with a Lawless clutch to the Prism Awards in LA last night. We ended up doing the fitting in ten minutes by text, which was a new one but totally worked. I love the color combo we did. A shameless proud child of the 80s.

NY Summer Rooftop Film Series

obvious child

Yesterday as I was walking through midtown on a very warm sunny day I realized that ninety percent of my summer wardrobe is silk. Should make for an interesting sweaty summer in the city. Just as I was planning my means of escape from the humid hell that calls itself New York City in the months following the freezing hell, I got a pleasant email in my inbox listing all the cool films Industry City is screening on rooftops this summer, including some of my Sundance favorites like Appropriate Behavior, Kumiko The Treasure Hunter and a preview of Gillian Robespierre’s upcoming A24 release Obvious Child on Saturday, May 17th. A full list of the films below. Continue reading

Forever Favorite Look

dress tory burchblazer rag and boneboots Guiseppebag DVF

My uniform: white shabby-chic dress, black blazer, military boots (sort of…) and a cross body leather bag. This has been my go to look for more years than I can count. In my mind, it is the perfect combination of the lady I strive to be and the punk rocker I’ve been. Sort of. I like to call it the grown up punk look. Above, the perfect spring dress from Tory Burch with a Rag & Bone blazer that will last you for the next ten years (trust me), Guiseppe Zanotti boots and a DVF bag. There is a playlist to go with this that includes the new Warpaint and Kelis albums.

L. Raphael, Ultimate Anti Wrinkle

L Raphael Night Cream

I started using the cleanser and night cream from L.Raphael‘s Ultimate Anti-Wrinkle line a few weeks ago and I swear this is the best cream I have ever tried. That is saying a lot because if you know me, you know I love my creams and over the years have tried everything except for Botox and needles. No, really, everything. Between all the products I get asked to try and the products I try on my own and being on the receiving end of countless gift bags, editor’s gifts and Continue reading

Stephen Shore, New Book & Signing

Stephen Shore_

Stephen Shore has a new book, From Galilee to the Negev, being published by Phaidon, out in stores in May, and next Thursday April 24th he is doing a book signing at Hennessey + Ingalls inside Space 15 Twenty, 1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd in Los Angeles. Slideshow presentation at 7pm followed by the signing and a reception. Stephen still teaches photography at Bard, which is where I discovered his work years ago as a freshman. He pretty much invented color photography as it is today. A lot of what we see in travel and food photography and even Andreas Gursky, he did first. Continue reading
