Melissa Coker of Wren will be launching her first swimwear collection in collaboration with designers Maayan Zilberman & Nikki Dekker of The Lake & Stars for resort-spring. The Lake girls launched their line back in 2008 while I was still at WWD and completely went head over heels for their first collection. LA Food & Wine Festival

We went to the LA Food and Wine Festival‘s opening night yesterday (also Giada De Laurentiis’ birthday) and it was phenomenal. This is only the third year they’ve done it and my first year attending but I have to say, it was stellar. Food and wine lover heaven. So many amazing wines to try and incredible food from some of LA’s favorite places including oysters from Bouchon, smoked fish from Little Dom’s, salted caramel custard from Chef Jeff Mahin. Amazing burrata with salmon roe, and caviar with chives. Way too much to list in one breath… It was an endless and overwhelmingly great experience. I even ate duck. Yup, I put aside all health and other concerns and just went for it. It was awesome. Life is short, I am thankful I get to enjoy it at every turn. Thanks for having us! Continue reading →

Calvin Klein, Downtown, Vogue, The September Issue

Remember the scene in “Clueless” where Cher’s scary lawyer dad says, “Honey, I couldn’t be prouder of you than if they were based on real grades!” in response to her negotiating skills on her report card? Well, that’s how I feel about great marketing campaigns. They are brilliant and as good as some of my favorite films. I got a package in the mail today from Vogue (that sentence itself is beautiful, right?) with the new marketing campaign for Calvin Klein’s latest fragrance Downtown and a short film directed by David Fincher starring Rooney Mara with a soundtrack from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It’s beautiful. Watch the film below. And smell the new parfum at a store nearby (when will they invent scratch and sniff blogs??) And yes, the September issue is as good as it looks. InStyle Summer Soiree 2013

Last week InStyle magazine threw their annual Summer Soiree at the Mondrian pool. The ladies of InStyle transformed that space from what is usually Sky Bar to a literal style candyland of fun, Hamptons inspired. There were so many beautiful familiar faces and friends. Instyle always throws the best parties that feel more like family reunions than anything else. From the food (lobster rolls and crabcakes!) to the sweets (see above, cupcakes, ice cream and the gold standard of candy bars) and the gifts (beauty products galore!) it was a gorgeous and fun night. This Weekend, Saturday BBQs and Birthdays

Who said the BBQ was casual? Years ago, after years of punk rock at all the wrong occasions, I finally accepted that I was definitely in the right business because I will use ANY excuse to dress up. Seriously, and if I had all the money to burn it would only be worse. Sometimes I joke that in my past life I was a socialite with a lot of money but I must have done something really awful because (well, not that awful… I still came back as a girl…) the universe plopped me back down with the same taste and lifestyle without the bank account. Yeah, I’m stickin’ with it… But it’s not over yet universe. Lace up oxfords for day from Y’s and oxford high heel “Jeona” booties from Ralph Lauren for night, with a bag change of course. Charles Anastase ruffle dress with a Levi’s floppy hat and Givenchy bag for the day festivities and a Clare Vivier clutch for night. Continue reading →
