Megan Duffy, Maniac

IMG_7396

A few weeks ago we did a shoot with our friend Megan Duffy, an up and coming actress with a serious funny bone. If you’ve caught any recent Burger King commercials, she is the adorable redhead (yes, I said the “A” word, don’t shoot me bacon!) Her new film Maniac, directed by Franck Khalfoun and starring Elijah Wood, premiered at Cannes last year and is a remake of a 70s slasher flick. Yes, there is faux misogynistic undertone, which we forgive because, well, we know better and love Elijah (and Megan!), plus the lighting and cinematography is really beautiful. This is coming from a very squeamish non horror girl who would rather watch anything but horror. Even reality TV. The film opens on June 21st in New York at IFC and LA on June 28th. A QA with Ms. Duffy, the trailer and more from our shoot below. Above, Harlyn dress, vintage belt, Shoemint heels. Continue reading

All’Angolo

Photo_73

Apparently there are still secret places to find in LA. This Saturday I had the best Italian this side of Milan at All’Angolo. It reminds me of my favorite place in NY Max on Avenue B (recently shuttered after hurricane Sandy, it literally killed the place, thank god there’s an outpost in Tribeca) where I used to go almost nightly. The freshest pasta and mozzarella since Bagutta opened up on 2nd street in the late 90s. Yes. It is THAT good. If you want to impress your date, come here. And don’t be deterred or confused by the address, yes, you’re at the right spot, it is in Koreatown. It may not look like much from the outside and I was too busy eating to take photos of the food, but just trust me. A photo from a fashion shoot I did for Achtung magazine in 2002 above, the secret hideaway below. Continue reading

Mika Fowler at Kim Vo Salon

Photo_20

After ten years as the style director at Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills, one of my favorite LA-based hair stylists, Mika Fowler has made the move to Kim Vo Salon at the Montage Hotel. She has done my hair for awards season and events for the last few years and never failed me. The salon is on the 3rd floor of the hotel and they have valet or plenty of parking next door in the public garage.

Oxfords for Any Occasion

lace ups _frye

I have been wearing a pair of Frye lace up oxfords lately with everything. Dresses, skirts, leggings, and jeans for any occasion. I am always a fan of hard and soft together, masculine feminine, which is perfect with a pair of old school lace up shoes and a girly dress. Maybe it’s growing up in the 80s and 90s coming back to haunt me. Frye carlton oxfords above and below, Cole Haan Gramercy oxford, Hush Puppies, Ralph Lauren raffia and leather oxfords, and J Crew purple suede oxfords. Continue reading
