Being Pro Faux at Vogue, The Humane Society & H Couture Hosted by Paul Wesley & Torrey DeVitto

When I was twenty six I was hired to be the fashion editor of Russian Vogue. I had no idea they had an entire issue devoted to fur when I started (I know, totally naive on my end especially considering I was born in Russia). I have been anti fur (or “Pro Faux” as I like to call it now) since I was 14 years old so when the fashion calendar for the November FUR issue was revealed I had a mild ethical heart attack. I wasn’t about to budge on my long held belief that animals deserve our love and respect as much as our advertisers. So when I was assigned a fur shoot I decided it was Continue reading

Topanga Vintage Market

There is a new vintage market that sets up in the Topanga Westfield Shopping Center’s parking lot every fourth Sunday of the month. I went with a friend, who introduced me to it yesterday and it is amazing. Much smaller than the Rose Bowl (thank god!) with a well curated selection of wares at much better prices. From Hollywood you just take the 101 North to Topanga Canyon Blvd, Exit 27A and the market is right there on the corner of Topanga and Oxnard. You can’t miss it!

Nikki Deloach in Catherine Deane

I dressed Nikki Deloach this weekend for Variety’s Women in Film event to which she wore this amazing Catherine Deane dress with a baby pink Amanda Pearl clutch and Aldo heels (you can’t see them here but there is an image of them below) A close up of the clutch is there as well. Continue reading

Andy Warhol & Friends at The Met

I love this painting by Ed Ruscha from 1966. It is part of the new exhibition at The Met called “Regarding Warhol” that is up through December 31st. I can’t lie, I am not even remotely curious about any of the Andy Warhol paintings they have up but I am interested in what is essentially a group show of other cool contemporary artists. Warhol is like the Beatles at this point; wholly influential and easily acknowledged as a revolutionary within the context of their times but utterly boring and redundant in the context of our time solely due to the effect of the very far reaching influence they have had over pop culture. It is just too redundant and watered down in so many other places which makes looking at Warhol (or listening to the Beatles) almost painfully boring. Yes, boring. Let the wrath fly from obsessive fans and lovers. All that aside, still a show worth seeing.

Sundance Favorites in Los Feliz

If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to sneak peak a lot of great films at Sundance this past year you are in luck now because LA’s only proper matinee theater ($6.50 before 6pm!) is screening not one but four of my favorites from Sundance! Little Birds with Juno Temple (above), Arbitrage with Richard Gere, Beasts of The Southern Wild (perfect timing with the Treme season 3 premier this weekend) and Bachelorette with Kirsten Dunst and Lizzie Kaplan. So if you need something to do or some AC hit up Los Feliz Vintage theater this weekend (in between all of your Emmy’s fun of course…) The Master with Joaquin Phoenix is playing there too. I saw it last week in NYC. Amazing. Must see.

What To Wear to All Those Emmy’s Parties…

This week is basically one long party that begets more outfit changes than fashion week. Why do they call it “awards season” when really they should just call it a socialite’s wet dream because it conveys the mood of busy busy running around but really it’s just going from beauty suites to gifting suites to parties, dinners and luncheons. Also known to some as being a working actress and others, a magazine editor. I’ve lost track of this week’s parties but one of my favorites so far was the People Style Watch shindig at Palihouse last night where there were a ton of familiar faces, even some from NY (Yay!) Party frocks, clockwise from the top… Pucci lace dress, Yiqing Yin jersey draped dress, Zero + Maria Cornejo printed stretch silk dress and an Alexander McQueen chiffon gown.
