Russian Street Style, Miroslava Duma

Anyone that knows me or at least reads this blog every blue moon knows I am a fan of anything and anyone Russia obsessed (I am a native and allowed some pride in the country that was thrilled to lose me to emigration many years ago but I digress…) so of course I get excited anytime Style.com waxes poetic about my motherland. Today there is an interview by Maya Singer with Miroslava Duma, a 25 year old Russian street style maven who is one of the hosts for Ferragamo‘s FNO event in NYC this week. Along with a fashion obsession Ms. Mira also has a very strong opinion on Pussy Riot, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. And I DO know my Russian history and know exactly what Continue reading

I Heart New Orleans, Especially The Ritz (of course…)

I love New Orleans. I visited for the first time two years ago and fell head over heels with the city and The Ritz Hotel, which is where we stayed. My recent addiction to Treme has only made matters worse. This week was the seven year anniversary of Katrina and the city was hit by the usual August storms. And while it is always a little scary to watch even from afar I was happy to get an email from a friend who works at The Ritz to reassure everyone that things are business as usual down there, so if you are up for an adventure don’t cancel your travel plans. Their hotel spa, which is rated the #1 hotel spa in the U.S. and Canada according to Travel +Leisure, reopened yesterday. Considering the Continue reading

TV Party Tonight!

It is not news that the best things to watch are on TV right now so I am counting the days until September when my favorite shows start up again. I just recently (finally!) watched both seasons of Treme (back to back, I couldn’t help it) and it may be the one thing that convinces me to order cable again, which I haven’t had for over five years (who needs cable when you have Hulu and iTunes?) Parenthood, which is one of my guilty pleasures (Jason Ritter is beyond adorable) along with Hart of Dixie (massive crush on Wilson Bethel, I can’t lie and I adore Rachel Bilson), starts up again on NBC September 11th at 10pm and October 2nd respectively for Hart on the CW. Revenge, another fabulous guilt inducing drama packed with some of my favorite young ladies, begins on ABC September 30th at 9pm along with Homeland on Showtime the same night at 10pm. Happy Endings, a totally underrated show on ABC starts up again October 23rd. Treme season three premiers on HBO September Continue reading

IMG & Danny Roberts, Spring 2013

IMG models hired Danny Roberts to illustrate their models’ cards for this season’s show package. There is something beautiful and fleeting about this video of him doing his handy work. I love it.

All We Know by Lisa Cohen

There is a great article on WWD today about Lisa Cohen’s new book “All We Know,” which explores the lives of Esther Cohen, Mercedes De Acosta and Madge Garland, who for me is the most fascinating of the group. Madge Garland was 24 when she went to work for British Vogue and was a fashion editor for the magazine in the Twenties and 30’s. That is her above on the left with her then editor in chief (and lover!) Dorothy Todd. Continue reading

Brancott Estate Wines

New Zealand’s Brancott Estate became one of my inexpensive favorites recently. Along with great wine they also released their first wine app earlier this year, which lets you experience 14 different types of virtual excursions over 1 glass of wine (or bottle…) The app can be downloaded from a link found on your iPhone or Android phone and then all you need to do is scan any part of the bottle to unlock a slew of adverntures like discovering the distance from your current location to the winery.

Earn Your Stripes, Gorgeous Fall Sweaters

I have become obsessed with the coming fall. I need it to be cold (or at least mildly breezy) again, and am almost tempted to pack my bags for NY past fashion week so I can experience a real winter again. I miss snow, I miss seasons, I miss layers of sweaters and scarves. I’m Russian, it’s in my warm blood. Love these sweaters from Thakoon, JCrew, Mes Demoiselles and Rag & Bone.

tête-à-tête at Yancey Richardson

I am in love with this image “Landscape 2 Women” by Xaviera Simmons that was part of the group show tête-à-tête (Curated by Mickalene Thomas) at Yancey Richardson in NYC, which just closed.
