Day for Night, Shiny & A Little Shabby Chic

Shiny mini skirts are perfect with slouchy white T’s and can easily go from day to night, kind of the perfect outfit to pack for a fun weekend getaway. All Saints has great embellished minis, I love this one with mother of pearl detailing and sequins with an Enza Costa T shirt, Erdem scarf (so pretty!!) and a Rag & Bone hat, Balmain boots and ASOS satchel. Ketel One Vodka, A Gentleman’s Read

Everything in our world has come down to one thing: branding. So it’s not a surprise these days when a liquor brand expands into other arenas, whether it’s art, magazines or films and videos but the Ketel One online editorial launch A Gentleman’s Read is intriguing. Not necessarily because of Continue reading

Topanga Blues Festival & Shakespeare in the Park

This past Sunday a friend invited me to the Topanga Blues Festival at the Theatricum Botanicum where I happily went dressed in full music festival attire* (see below). The venue is super small and super cute, and I loved the vibe of the whole thing (including the pulled pork BBQ). And although I am not an expert on blues or jazz by any stretch my favorite performance of the day was the amazing jazz legend Barbara Morrison who performed with Joe Kincaid & The Soul Brothers. Ms. Morrison will be performing at the BMPAC Spring Blues festival on Continue reading

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation

A few months ago I went into Nordstrom’s to restock my foundation which for the last five years has been Laura Mercier‘s oil free in Vanilla Beige. To my horror (yes, HORROR! We women get attached to our make up and toiletries like there’s no tomorrow) I was told they had discontinued it and were relaunching the whole line in a few months with a new formula (what???) so I reluctantly tried the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation and then sulked as I paid for it. I didn’t like the strong rubbing alcohol scent of the Lancôme when I applied it and I really didn’t want to switch (I don’t do well with small changes, the big ones I can handle, it’s the little ones that Continue reading

Schiaparelli Relaunch & The Met Gala

Every other brand has found a way to revive itself so it’s only fitting that one of fashion’s French favorites finally begins a comeback especially considering the new show at The Met, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, which opens to the public this Thursday through August 19th. Diego Della Valle plans to relaunch the legendary Schiaparelli fashion house, which has been closed since 1954 and in September will announce a new designer for the brand. In the meantime, he’s Continue reading

Road Trip to San Francisco

I took a 24 hour road trip to San Francisco last week to see the Academy of Art’s graduating class show and to do some meetings. I stayed at the small inexpensive but tres Paris-circa-6th-ARR Nob Hill Hotel on Hyde Street (above), it’s shabby chic at its shabbiest but I loved it. Perfect for a few nights stay, really central and easy, a few minutes drive from Fillmore street where I zig zagged through some of my favorite boutiques. Besides seeing some fresh fashion faces at The Academy, the best discovery on this trip was my new SF obsession, Rose’s Cafe on Union Street. The place Continue reading

The Academy of Art University Graduation Fashion Show

Last Thursday evening the Academy of Art University in San Francisco had their graduation fashion show which was pretty impressive to say the least. Aside from the fact that the students produced some great work the guest of honor was Sarah Burton who is a graduate of the school and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Academy during her trip. She credits the school’s director, Simon Ungless who helped get her an internship at Alexander McQueen (Simon was a classmate and friend of McQueen’s from London’s Central Saint Martins) which of course led to her job and the rest is history. Ms. Burton selected two graduating students as interns, Maria Azucena Romero and Zhangchi Wang who was also one of my favorites. Zhangchi’s collection above and below, and more of my favorite student collections as well as images of Sarah Burton with Zhangchi Wang… Continue reading
