More Clinique, New Products

I admit I kind of like the bottle and the color (and of course the promise of moisture and tint and all that good stuff for summer). Clinique’s Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15 is the perfect thing to launch for Spring & Summer.

Kate in Alexander McQueen

Well, they did it. Kate and William got married and Kate wore Alexander McQueen. Lots of things in that sentence to make you smile and cry. The fact that she wore McQueen is not really a surprise since that was all the speculation but it does warm the heart a little that she paid tribute to one of fashion’s greatest most sorely missed talents. And she really does look stunning. Ugh, I hate being a die-hard romantic, sometimes it’s just plain annoying, and it ruins eye make up. Ok, I am off to the London in West Hollywood to watch the affair in full throttle on repeat Continue reading

How To Be A Man

Please, no one take this personally but I am a little excited at the prospect of some of the men in my life (or those I have yet to meet) reading or even glancing at Glenn O’Brien‘s new book, “How To Be a Man: A Guide To Style and Behavior For The Modern Gentleman”. I am totally obsessed with this book. I think it has been well established amongst my friends that I may have been Continue reading

Page One, Media Porn

I was genuinely disappointed when I didn’t have the chance to see Andrew Rossi and Kate Novack‘s documentary Page One at this year’s Sundance but thankfully someone thought to invite me to a press screening of the film tonight. I am a total media junkie so biased as hell but I think Page One is one of the most important films to be made in the last decade. Whether you work for Vogue or Vice you will find it fascinating. And in the end the overall sentiment is no doubt that old school journalism is not only relevant but also necessary. So to everyone who thinks that blogs are Continue reading

TOMS Shoes News

TOMS may not be the maker of hot sexy heels but they do make some rad comfy shoes and share them with the world which is equally beautiful. On June 7th, TOMS founder and Chief Shoe Giver Blake Mycoskie is adding another One for One product (like the shoes, for every one of the new product sold one will be given to a child in need). No one knows what the Continue reading

Beth Jeans Houghton, Dodecahedron

Beth Jeans Houghton – Dodecahedron by Mute UK

Digging this deep willowy track from 21 year old LA-based Beth Jeans Houghton who will release her debut album this Fall. She worked with producer Ben Hillier (Blur, Elbow, Depeche Mode, Doves) on this one and had an EP released in the UK in 2009. She’s got a bit of a Nico & Velvet Underground touch to her sound which I am hooked on…

Anthology Film Archives’ 40th Birthday!

One of the greatest things I got out of going to Bard (other than massive student loan debt and the ability to navigate socially awkward gatherings) is knowing about totally obscure films that most people have never heard of. Yeah, that may sound a little weird but those films made a direct impact on how I see the world and how I approach art and my work as a fashion stylist and photographer. Thanks to Bard I was also introduced to one of the greatest places on earth, Anthology Film Archives in NYC. During my Sophomore summer at Bard I spent my own hard earned cash to take Amtrak into the city once a week and intern in the dingy musty basement of Anthology’s headquarters on 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street in the East Village. No, I never interned at Vogue. Instead I worked with the legendary Jonas Mekas, who was also the brother of Adolfas Mekas, the head of the Bard Film department at the time. He had me Continue reading

MOCA Art + Fashion Panel

This is the 2nd in a series of art panels I worked on for the MOCA Contemporaries. Last week we had the Avant Garde film panel which turned into a really great dialogue between some incredible people and totally got me inspired. This one is going to be amazing with fellow WWD alum Rose Apodaca moderating and a great group of panelists including stylist Arianne Phillips, designer Michael Schmidt and artist Kimberly Brooks. The panel is next Tuesday, you can buy tickets here.

Olivier Rousteing for Balmain

Balmain has announced a new designer to take over the line after this January’s sudden departure by Creative Director Christophe Decarnin. We’ve all heard the rumors as to why Christophe left but why go into all that… he was incredibly talented and it’s never fun to see someone going thru personal drama. Olivier Rousteing is the new designer and I am excited to see what he does for Spring 2012, which will show in Paris this October. He studied at Paris’s École Supérieure Des Arts and worked for several years at Roberto Cavalli before joining the design studio at Balmain.
